Looking for Livery yards north of Reading

Hi
I'm moving from West Sussex which has amazing riding on the South Downs to north Reading and looking for a livery yard with good hacking.
I've had a bit of a near miss on the roads, so off road hacking is a must. Does anyone know of anywhere. I'm happy to travel maximum of 30 minutes for the right place. I've seen a couple of websites, but their prices are way out of my budget and I really only need a school, nothing fancy.

Where are you exactly and you are you looking for DIY, grass livery or assisted? There are some yards to the west of Reading which have good off-road hacking e.g. Cullinghood and Buckholdhill. If you are on the north side of the river then Palmers or Frieze Farm might be worth a look? You could try some of the local FB groups e.g Berkshire Horse and Pony, West Berkshire Happy Hackers, Thames Valley Riding Club and ask if anyone has any good ideas?
 
Thanks that's great. Ideally mostly DIY, but help available if needed. I have had a look at the Palmers website, but not sure about the hacking round there, Where is Frieze Farm and is the hacking better? I don't mind travelling a bit to get decent rides as I am such a bag of nerves of the roads. Are there any out near Henley? I'll be in Emmer Green.

Palmers/Rosehill website says there is good off road hacking. There was when I stabled there, but it was in 1980 so I wouldn't be sure now. There is a bridleway that runs right through it so you don't even go on the road to leave the yard. Out of nostalgia, I dropped by on a trip to Reading last year. It was (still) a bit rough and ready looking, but it's practically in Emmer Green, you could walk there. Downside will be that it's a riding school so I suspect use of the arena will be very limited and it might be annoying having clients and twenty five RS ponies around.

Frieze Farm is between Sonning Common and Binfield Heath - there is plenty of hacking, but it’s partly on road, no direct off road hacking.

The hacking from Palmers would be quite dull.

Ewelme Park Stables has direct off road, as does Cane End. There is another small yard Goring Heath way whose name escapes me that might also suit. Will keep thinking ...

Pop into Equestrian World and see what they have advertised

ETA at one point I think the yard in the middle of Flemmings/Nettlebed estate was taking liveries, not sure if they still do as I moved out of the area nearly 5 years ago. If they are that might be ideal.

Thanks. Lots of choice it would seem. Cane End is very expensive I believe.

Little bit difficult to pop in anywhere as I’m in West Sussex 😊
 
Thanks for the replies. Palmers will do me nicely if they have room. I have checked out the bridleways and it's fine for me. I definitely couldn't afford £78 pw at Cane End for DIY!! What are they thinking? No doubt full of ladies who lunch with their 69 plate Range Rover and not somewhere I would be even remotely happy. I will ring the estate office at Nettlebed, but it would be great to have somewhere so close I could walk if I wanted. Fingers crossed they have a space. I will also check out Frieze Farm if I can find it as it doesn't seem to be advertised anywhere, does anyone have any contact details? Cheers
