May suit

I know many will say it is too soon after Bruce, but after this week I will be officially horseless, with a stable and a very nice lorry and nothing to put in either. Realistically, I dont want to rush getting a horse, but I do want to start looking immediately.

If you dont agree please dont reply to that part of the post, its a hard enough decision already.

Anyway...After discussing the whole "what should I look for" in the pub this evening...We have decided (thats me and my best friend/instructor/flatmate/livery yard owner, and the girl that works for her, who is also a really good friend) that I need to get the following

Over 16hh
Sane
Trainable
3, 4 or 5 year old.

Ideally, not something TB or flighty. I am fine with sharp horses, just not worried ones (hope that makes sense)

Ideally, I would like to do 'top end' riding club, and get to the standard where I could do what is required at a pre novice, or novice event (though perhaps as indiidual diciplines, if that makes sense)

So, the wonderful resource that HHO is I thought I would ask here first...becasue knowing horsey people. someone will know someone with something! I am open to suggestions.

Oh and my budget is reasonable, but would prefer 4 figures!

Thank you all so much - PM me if you prefer!

Chloe

Hey, too soon after what exactly? After you have made a brave decision to do the best thing for a loyal friend? Go out and find yourself another lovely horse, who will be so lucky to be chosen by such a caring owner! Don't torture yourself, Good luck and enjoy it, you deserve it!

I agree with missfroufrou, enjoy it.

I know of a couple. The lady that I bought my boy from last year has some others now. I think they fit into what you are looking for, I will find out their details for you. They are Irish Sport Horses. With mine she started him off so he would hack out no problems, basic schooling, been a few places in the lorry and jumped. I think she aims to do this with all of them, depending on their age obviously.

I don't know where in the country you are, would you look in East Sussex?

I agree, another horse will help you move on and give you something to focus on rather than dwelling on losing you friend, who you made the only decision you could for his comfort and happiness.

I did have a 3yo in mind when i first read your other thread but I don't think he'll make the height he is suppose to but i'll keep my ear to the ground as people are always offering me younsters.

Considering how long it can take to find the right horse, though I of course hope it won't take you to long, why not start looking?

I have a distant relative that allways owns a black Miniature Poodle. When the old one starts to show signs of his old age or oldage related illness, she starts searching for a new puppy. Then she PTS the old dog the day before she goes to take home the new black Miniature Poodle.
This might upset some of you, and yes, maybe the old dog could have lived weeks, months or even years more, but her dogs lives good doglifes, they die old when they're still able to enjoy their life and there's no questions or worries about keeping them alive to long, if you're keeping them for theirs or your sake etc. She also does it this way, because she can't stand THE GRIEVEING EMPTYNESS.

I couldn't do it her way, but I would never say that her way was wrong. Her dogs are happy, well taken care of and never suffers, that makes her a good dogowner in my book.
You're horse is happy, well taken care of and when you found out that he is suffering and there's nothing you can do to take away the pain, you've decided to euthanize him. THESE THINGS makes you a GOOD horseowner in my book. When you decide to start looking for, or end up buying, your next horse has got ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with ANYTHING OR ANYONE but yourself!

from Sweden.

I don't know where you're based or how far you want to travel. Give Two Mills Sports Horses a look if its not too far for you, its on the Wirral. I got my young horse, who is exactly what you've just described, from them and they had lots of really nice horses.

Oh just to add, I've always done the same thing when I've had horses put to sleep and started looking round straight away. It helps to keep looking forwards IMO. Good luck finding something and have fun looking.

There is a nice 16hh 6 year old on horsemart in Chelmsford, Essex. He is a thoroughbred, but not if that makes sense, he is a little green but not that green and he is a genuine sort. His reference number is HM832FB02. He is owned by a friend of mine so I know he is nice.
