Hi

I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me out with this.

From 1 September I will start working in the Tower Hill Area in London and I hope to be able to stable my horse somewhere convenient. The options are either to live close to work and ‘commute’ to the horse or to live close to the horse (preferable not further out than zone 6) and commute to work. I am looking for a stable with part/full livery and daily turnout. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Personally I would pick live close to the horse and commute to work... because then at the end of the ride, you are near home and can always just pop to the stables

I live and work in London and only see my horse at weekends

also if you live a bit further out you should be able to afford a bigger/ nicer place to live

How about places that are on the trainline into London Bridge, Blackfriars or Cannon Street?

Think that would give you Essex, Kent.... not sure where else...

I live near my horse and commute into work. The journey from work to yard can be up to 1.15 hours but then the journey home from yard is short.

I am at LEC in Mill Hill East (Zone 4) and live in West Finchley so can walk to the yard in 20 minutes or 5 mins on the bus! I think where you might stuggle will be daily turnout in the winter - as lots of yard on offer every other day or can't guarantee it. So far my pony has lived all winter but they could not guarantee that would always be the case and it would also depend on if you were happy to have your horse turned out with RS school ponies which I don't mind if you were worried about a competition horse and only wanted it turned out in a small group then you probably would be again more restricted.

I used to commute into Fenchurch Street station (which is a stone's throw from Tower Hill) from Essex - it was a 35 min train journey from where I lived and there were a lot of horses round that area. Outside zone 6 but shorter commute than a lot of places on the tube lines! Upminster at the end of the district line might be an idea? I didn't have my horse at the time so can't help with the livery suggestions - sorry.

theres woodhurst farm livery in enfield, a train goes to crews hill from highbury and islington train station and its a 10 min walk from there, does full and part but in winter this year it went to every other day turnout.

Theres a couple of stables in the mill hill and whetstone area but again, don't know about turnout there. Theres also stables in east herts like east herts equestrian centre and harolds park farm, you'd need a car to get there though. Majority of places in essex will require a car aswell! I know there's a couple of yards in the waltham green area, not sure where the nearest train station is though! oh and a couple in leyton which would be the nearest to your work..

Hi everyone and thank you all for your posts. I will start to have a look at the suggested options.

I have been in contact with Mote End Farm and the place seem to have everything I need including daily turnout. I figured out I could live in the area and catch train from Mill Hill Broadway. However, not very familiar with the area. I like going running in the mornings so does anyone know if area is safe for that?

Again, thank you all your suggestions.

I live in west finchley as I livery in Mill Hill (but not at Mote End - its a bit out of my price range!) and it is really safe.

I used to be stabled at Mote end farm, and travelled up there via train on the weekend. It is a lovely place - you can rest assured that your horse is being superbly looked after. It's very competition based - therefore facilities are fantastic, including the cross country course. Around there is it lovely - you feel like you are really in the country. Turnout is not dodgy as such, but they won't turnout in bad weather and they all come in at about 2pm.
The area around the yard is safe, although the roads are quiet busy near the yard. It's busy round there at school time, because of the large number of schools.
I didn't venture further than the walk to the yard from the station, but I did have some trouble with people being very weird at Mill Hill Broadway, especially late at night. That did become one of the reasons why I left the yard.

Good Luck with your search - if you want anymore info, PM me!
