Hi All,

I'm thinking about putting my boy on loan or looking for a sharer. The question is how much to charge. I am in the South East and my livery is pretty expensive which is part of the reason why I am looking for a sharer.

I was wondering about £40 for 4-5 days per week to include one weekend day...

Does that sound reasonable or do you think that's way out?

All advice gratefully received.

Cheers,

I would say 30-35 tops. Most people seem to pay about 25 for 3 days, but i would think if someone was only wanting a share then 40 would be too much even for 5 days. You might find someone out there who would do it, but i think you will get a lot more interest at around 30. You could also ask for half of shoes and wormer to be paid as part of the agreement to make up the costs a bit, and i think people might be more willing to do this.

I'm also in Surrey and livery is very expensive - I have a sharer on each horse. one rides 3 days a week and pays £200pcm the other rides 2 days a week and is on £150pcm. They are both on livery so there are no stable chores all the sharers do is come down and ride. If they are organised enough to write in the livery diary they don't even need to catch them from the field or turn them out so I don't think I charge too much!

That gives me hope ChunkeyMonkey :-) Same situation here really - he's on Part Livery so there's no stable chores, just riding. Again if they wanted him brought him, it could be done easily enough.

He's pretty easy and I'm happy for people to do whatever they want with him (within reason)...

Hmmm, toddles off for a ponder...

found the sharer for my baby pretty quickly as she is a good friend but put an ad out for my old boy who is just back after tendon injury (so hacking only) and had lots of interest at those prices - I am Surrey/London though so lots of people in town who want to ride. Depends where in Surrey you are I suppose?!

On the Surrey/West Sussex border so maybe not quite the same. Well, I'll give it a try anyway and see what interest I get. thanks for your help :-)

Hey, i'm in Essex and when was I was looking for a horse to share, they were all £25 - £30, between 2 - 4 days a week, including one weekend day. The last one that I saw was also at full livery. Having said this, I think it's partly to do with the amount of horses around looking for sharers here - there are loads!

Round here it seems to work out around the £10 per day mark for full so that is quite reasonable but 4 - 5 days a week may be more than alot of people want. Some people share because they can't commit to that much time. But I do know people that have two sharers doing two days each.

Owch! I am glad I am not paying those prices for my share! I pay £40 per MONTH and half her shoeing (fronts only onde every 8 weeks) so it works out about £50 a month for which I do all the jobs on those days for two ponies (only one is stabled and only from Nov - March)...

For that I have Ellie (and also her unbroken daughter) 3 days a week, including Sunday, and I can do whatever I like with her within reason. I currently hack her twice a week and have a lesson once a week. H I make a fuss of her daughter on my days too, she is like my giant friendly labrador and luuuureves baths, so I really get two ponies for the price of one!!

My days are really flexible and her owner is lovely. I love it.
