Try your local Horse rescue charity. Sadly, there are usually loads of Shetlands at these establishments. I took Molly, the Christmas Day rescue shetland from this Forum and when it became clear that she needed a companion to share her spring and summer management, I went to our local Trust and now have Lady, a gorgeous chestnut miniature shetland mare on permanent loan. Molly and Lady hit it off immediately and are inseparable now.
Mine runs through the muddy gateway covering me from head to toe when I get her in!
Thinks shes 18hh high and must be treated as such.
lunging must be done at a million miles per hour.
dances around when you wash her legs unless you warm the water.
She isnt too keen on small children but is ok with older kids.
trys to nick any food around and generally annoys me!
on the plus side....
loads and travels brilliantly, great to leave on the box with a haynet.
100% bombproof.
gets shoved in the stable with anything on box rest to keep them company.
can be turned out with anything and doesnt mind being in the field on her own.
and wins loads when inhand showing in the summer.
