hello all,
we have a brown/black mare, who had foal last year by maestro ( big strong type), am looking for another for 2010, looking for big frame, temp, etc. Mare has great movement & pretty (Sapros), does anyone got one by contis, & what are they like. Mare can be sharp, so temp is a great facter.

Hi about Woodcroft garuda K. He has got exceptional shoulder movement but I am not convinced he has a good ebnough hind leg for my liking but certainly a real looker

Another vote for the Holme trakehner stallions. My 4 year old mare is Holme Grove Solomon, their oldest resident stallion and he has one of the kindest temperaments i have ever seen in a horse. Holme Park Krug and Holme Park Legend have fantastic temperaments too. Have a look on their website for more photos of them and their progeny.

Hi have a look at our web site www.romarnicstud.co.uk .

Fairlyn Gemini who is anglo arab but graded trak. sire of top class/ competition horses including the advanced eventer "Statham Sabu".

Also his premium son Romarnic Ranger. Young stallion who has yet to through a chestnut. Big shoulder and lovely temp.

Ranger will be at Burghley in the stallion parade.

The Holme Park stallions are lovely as is Garuda K.

Have you any more info on your mare's pedigree? Are you happy to use forzen as well as chilled and are you happy to use stallions in Germany.
Some of the stallions mentioned above are not fully Trakehner approved just yet so if you want full pink papers for the foal, be sure to check that out. However they may well be by next year's stud season.

Contis had a super crop of foals last year at the breed show. He would be neater lighter framed stallion. Very much an eventer mould.

As Kerilli saus Axis would be well worth considering, and other larger framed stallions would include Grand prix stallions Munchhausen, King Arthur. Silvermoon, sire of the great Matine is also a lovely longer framed horse.

I agree with Volatis - I would look to Germany as you will have a lot more choice and the stud fees are often quite a lot cheaper than for the UK stallions. You will almost certainly have to use AI for the majority of stallions in the UK anyway so there is little difference getting fresh chilled from Germany or the UK.

I guess you are looking for next year so if you are really serious it would be worth going to Germany for the stallion approvals and gala evening. There you will see the best the breed has to offer, including British stallions based in Germany such as the gorgeous Axis that Kerelli mentioned.

I would second King Aurthur, Axis or Summertime who I have always liked. You could also choose Kostolany the granddaddy of the new wonderhorse Totalis. There is a good thread on chronicle of the horse breeding forum that lists all the trak stallions that have competed Grand Prix CDI/world class level which is well worth having a look at

There are of course wonderful UK stallions based over here that have also been mentioned so you do have lots of choice whether you look at home or abroad

just been looking at trakherner intl, looked at checkpoint, has anyone seen him, am getting more confused looking at trak intl, so much choice & all trult stunning. Then I know someone who has a stallion by caprimond & temp to die for.

Yes, indeed both Kostolany and Gribaldi are full trakeher and so of course Totalis is half trakehner.

Maren at trakehner international is VERY, VERY helpful and you won't get anyone more knowledgable. Speak to her online. If you send pics of your mare to her and what you are looking to breed she will give you sound, impartial advice. She helped me a few years back. I knew the stallion I wanted but she was able to confirm everything I'd heard about him and that he would match well with my mare. The resulting colt was sold to north america as a stallion prospect, though he didn't get approved he will make someone a lovely gelding.

Contis is a very nice horse with a good even temperament. his first two crops of foals have been of an excellent standard, with three out fo the four places in the Championship at last year's breed show going to his stock.

He is out competing now and is a lovely well mannered horse with decent conformation, excellent paces and a good trainable attitude.
