Hello everyone :)
As some of you may remember, i'm going to USA for 11 weeks this summer to work on 3 different yards with horses; a western ranch, a dressage yard and a stud farm/eventing yard. But of course I will need travel insurance. I have checked with my bank and on my home insurance, and its all very basic, cover in case i lose my bags etc, but no medical cover. So I need to buy myself travel insurance, the problem I'm having is that 99.9% of the companies on the comparing sites, exclude medical cover for injuries sustained while participating in one of their 'dangerous sports' from their list, and horse riding is on there unfortunately.
So i thought i'll come on here to see if any of you have had experience with buying travel insurance for horse riding holidays abroad, and which companies are best, where should i be looking etc?
Thank you! :)

I am using a company called All Clear - we have to go down a more specialist route as hubby has had heart surgery - they cover horseriding!

I think working with horses is going to be more difficult than just holiday insurance. I have travel insurance with my bank, it is AXA insurance company and I had to have "proof" of insurance for the holiday company.
I wrote to AXA and asked them to write back and confirm that I would be covered and sent them a copy of the brochure. The only thing they jibbed at was a description of "games" thinking I would be barrel racing. I think they did hum and haw a bit about it, as I phoned up, but in the end were OK, and I had to wear a hard hat at all times.

You might have to go through a broker to find a specialist. I think BHS Gold membership gives some world wide protection but no idea if it would cover medical expenses for USA - doubtful.

Have you tried STA Travel? They specialise in student gap years, working holidays, round the world travel etc and, from having a quick look on their website they certainly do offer travel insurance including more 'dangerous' sports. They have been round for years and should have something to suit just about every type of longer working holiday wherever it may be!

Snowcard seem to do interesting things for skiing so might well do horse riding. Insure and go had lists of activities in the past. Suspect it will be pricy with the cost of medical care in the usa!

Used to work part time in travel agents where we had insurance training and just to re iterate others in that you must have it in writing on the policy that you are covered for work! Insurance companies do anything to wriggle out of paying, do not trust some one on the phone saying you are covered.

Snowcard, wouldn't insure with anyone else. I have used them for alpine climbing trips and snowboard holidays. Horseriding is covered under their leisure policy. They paid out within a week after I had to claim for a climbing accident.
