Hello everyone :)

I finally have a horse!!! A suprising and rather huge Christmas present!! A Piebald cob at 14'2 hh.

I'm starting to buy stuff for him, and have all the minor stuff sorted, just need saddle and bridle. Saddle is possibly sorted via a newspaper ad (if it's the right measurments), so bridle is what I'm looking for. (Though I do have tack to borrow in the meantime)

I'm a little ashamed to say I was looking at the Robinsons £29 jobbys, though have read very bad writeups on here about them, sooooo...

Give me your reccomendations :)

Preferably under £100 and made of leather.

I'm also looking for a customised saddlecloth. I hear there's a stand at Exeter horse sale that does them, but my friend does not know the company's name, anyone on here know who they are? Or know someone that does them at a fair price?

Cheers all :)

Don't forget the cost of the bit. Ebay is good for cheap bridles and bits, you might get better quality for your money.

Ooo I forgot to add, his previous owner has given me a bit, but the bridle she used on him for me to test him out with was too big, hence why I have to get a new one :P

GFS do some nice bridles at around £50. I have one and its good quality for the money and looks the part!
ETS i found them quite small fitting

Ask you saddler if they make them. I have a lovely quality english bridle for my pony made to measure by my saddler for £55

How exciting!!

Jefferies and Sabre do some nice plain hunter snaffles that would suit the workmanlike cob head for about £80.

Or, grab a 2nd hand good quality one off Ebay for about £10-£30.

In my opinion you'd be better off getting a cheaper bridle but spending the spare on a saddle fitter, you can do a lot of damage with a badly fitting saddle, even if it looks ok (I speak from experience!!). :)

However I would personally go for a Collegiate bridle. £60, I got mine for £50 in a sale. Lovely quality english leather, they do come up a little small though so get a size bigger than you normally would (I have a full size for my TB).

EDIT- If I were you I'd google 'numnah personalisation'. That's where I got mine. Or try treehouse/polypads/nag rags? xx

I love the heritage ones - i'm selling a cob sized one in brown cos I want a black one - PM me if interested.

Hiya,

I'm very interested in your bridle (if someone else doesn't snatch it up!) but I'll have to see what money I get for xmas first :) could you PM me offers you're willing to accept :) Thankyou :)

i have a lovely personalised, embroidered saddle cloth from ebay. it wasn't particularly cheap however is lovely quality and not something i could source locally. it arrived in time and service was very reliable.
Most of the embroidering stands at events usually have an online store or ebay site too so it is definitely worth looking on there in order to get a better range of saddlecloths/numnahs and embroidery options :)

I bought my bridle (a rather lovely havana grackle) from ebay for £30ish and it's lovely! Had to check size as my large horse has a tiny tiny head (he's 17h and has cob size things, he could get away with being a large pony!
Shop around, and check sizing as some come up big/small. I've bought a show bridle from ebay and it's rather smart, can PM you sellers details if you'd like.

Hey all,

I got the bridle sorted. I chose an English leather brand new one with ruber grip reins, Havana in colour from Preloved. I've not heard of this website before till I googled it and it' fab, I got a pair of Jods for a fiver haha. I've got my rug sorted as well (we're going for a blue theme lol) and I chose my custom numnah from VicarageDesigns. Now all I gotta sort is a saddle, whch we'll contact the local saddler about :) But till then we have a saddle we can borrow that fits him :)

Well this is a small world. The MrChives I PMed about the Bridle was actually the person I bought one from off of PreLoved, small world haha
