has any ideas where to start looking for a loan horse. my daughters mare is currently in foal EDD in 2 weeks. so we have decided to try and loan either long/short term. we really miss going out to shows and had fingers burnt by buying last year. although funds are low to buy we have the best yard and back up available. (professional SJ owns yard, so lessons no problem). just not sure how to start. we were going to put some adverts up locally and maybe on horsemart. has anyone had any luck finding a loan horse this way? i also have read the horror stories people have when loaning and wonder if that puts you off.

Word of mouth is probably the best bet and perhaps your local Free ads or look on their website
I have heard far too many horror stories over the years, and would never personally loan a horse out or take one on loan. Hopefully, you will be one of the lucky ones.

I got a pony on loan 11 years ago and have never looked back. That was through word of mouth. Full contracts etc so it was done properly. I outgrew him after a few years but he has stayed with me. I class him as my own. What sort of horse are you looking for?

I have a horse on loan and its working out really well so far, I was told to treat him as my own and I do, he's really happy as well and I hope to have him for a very long time.
I found my horse on horsequest.co.uk, but you could look on horsemart, but I think that for loaning work of mouth is a really good place to start. Good luck!

Found my daughters on ad trader she has a new horse and I made a friend. We can have her as long as we want or until my daughter grows out of her.It will break our hearts if she has to go back and my geldings.Put you post code in on ad trader and you can scan local ads.

I put my own horse out on loan last year. I advertised him locally with small posters in tack shops etc and in local paper, I didn't advertise him on Horsemart etc. because I really wanted him to be reasonably local so that I can go to visit him occasionally. If the owner cares about their horse you must expect that they will want to vet you and your facilities carefully and also have a proper contract to protect all involved.
