I am looking at jobs for when I qualify next year. Due to recent troubles part of me wants to leave the heart of the shires but I have no idea where to go

I will be taking my horse and cats with me so ideally need a location suitable for them with good bridleway/country access as I hack a lot. Please help all you horsey people, where would you recommend?? :)

You are spoilt for choice, there are so many lovely places in this country:)

I live in Norfolk, on the Norfolk/Suffolk border. It is relatively cheap, and there seem to be a fair few yards about. In this particular area we have plenty of Forestry Commission land, so you can ride there, and there are horsey beaches within reach as well, like Holkham.

The downside is that it can feel like quite a trek to get anywhere, since there are relatively few large trunk roads and the trains, while ok, are not space age! But then where are they space age?

I like it here anyway:)

Ooo, you can't beat gloucestershire and the cotswolds! :D

Gorgeous countryside, voted top equestrian county in the uk, excellent for all disciplines, close to major motorways for easy access to, well, everywhere! Lovely nearby towns for the all important shopping outings! ;) (cheltenham, gloucester, cirencester, swindon, worcester, bristol, brum... all within an hour).

Hmmm, think i sound abit bias! But i do love it very much around here! :D

It just has to be somewhere with a maternity hospital nearby so no real restrictions. I am looking at jobs and there are a few about just have to make sure the location is right for my family :D

Lots of ideas so far, thank you. Keep them coming!! :)

Well, I would recommend yorkshire in a totally unbiased way - unless you are already here?!

Lots of options, lots of hospitals and lots of lovely people.

Having said that, I work all over and other places that look pretty good are the cotwolds, shropshire and south wales. It pains me to say the last one, but it is quite nice down there! :D

One place I would maybe avoid is around Lancaster. I studied there and it is a lovely place, but there seems to be a serious lack of bridlepaths, sadly:(

We relocated to the Lincolnshire Wolds. Space, peace, cheap houses, empty coastlines and a relatively unchanged way of life.

if you want proper horse access you need to move to Scotland...we have right of responsible access over most land not just wild places like in England. And theres lots of forestry and beaches too.

Public sector eg NHS very strong as well.

It depends what you want really, I couldn't live far up north because I REALLY feel the cold :o

I also am a bit fed up with living in the middle of no where  I really want to live where there is a bit more going on, so I guess my ideal would be somewhere down south and in a large village or small town but still in a horsey area :)

Herefordshire/Worcestershire is lovely. I have a friend lives in that area, and it's not too bad for access to the rest of the UK - M50 I think it is takes you onto the M5, or you can go cross country, he's less than an hour from Gloucester and a touch longer to Bristol. Very pretty, and lots of places to hack.
