Hi could anyone please tell me if there are any dobe breed rescues in or around London, Kent, Essex. Im looking for a 12month + dobe and have been searching for ages. Dog treats for your pets in exchange for help or advice x

Hi, if this is your first Dobe be prepared for the third degree because they are not the dog for everyone, requiring lots of exercise and mental stimulation. Read everything you can get your hands on and some.

My current 2 are from Doberman welfare and I had to go to Wales for them, having had Dobes in the past from private rehomes I was still given the third degree and rightly so.

Good luck and I hope you are successful and then you can come on here and keep me company, there are another couple on here who also own Dobes but we are vastly outnumbered by Spaniels & GSDs.:)

If Dobermannrehome are too far from you I sure Chris Omar will put you in touch with somone closer.

Thank you. I have grown up with dobes, rotties and boxers as an adult ive only had a staffie who sadly was pts 2yrs ago. I have a daughter of 8 and am able to take my dog to work with me. After finally buying a house with a garden im wanting a dobe again! Ill do some intense research and give your suggestion a call. I had a quick look on their site and am in love with one of their girlies already..... Off to read up. THANKS!

totally what dobiegirl said. I would go thro the rescue as they will have been temperament tested and possibly might have an idea about how they are bred which obviously has a lot of bearing on it's nature. Good luck, you need to get some pics up when you find one.
Yeah there are lots of gsd, spaniel, etc people here and just a few with dobes. i do think quality is more important than quantity though :D

Can I tempt you into a dobie/rottie cross (we think!) I'd have her myself but one of mine is awful with other dogs. She's attending the same training class as me:

Under two, not yet spayed but will be. Watford area with the Every Dog Matters rescue on Sandy Lane.

Yes I can 100% be tempted the best two breeds lol. Is she suitable for an 8yr old child as most rescues are regecting us on that basis. She is a gorg bag x

My daughter is 8 nearly 9 has her own pony is very responsible and is good around other peoples dogs. She is big for her age and solid (meant in the loveliest of ways of course) so size wise she wont be knocked over easily by a bigger dog. Having been around these breeds as I child, I know how good they are in a family enviroment I trust breed and believe any dog can be a family pet if taught manners and routine from the start. It seems so many rescues assume because its a dobe or rottie its not suitable. Im sure some wont be but i feel some wont be given the chance. I know its not as black and white but really want to rescue and not buy but so far no success.

Have found the website (which also has another rottie!!) Im going to phone tomorrow and see when me and my daughter can visit. Thank you all so much I feel it may actually happen... Fingers crossed I get a dog to love again.

Cant reply to pm on my silly phone but thank you so so much for putting yourself out for me. Very much appreciated x

I thought your daughters age might be a stumbling block, rescues have to be careful, there was a case just before Xmas involving a Rottie from a rescue and a child and its sent shock waves through rescues.

Looking at the site for Dobermannrehoming I noticed there are a few who are not good with other dogs, unfortunately Dobes need lots of socialisation with other dogs when young and these dogs probabley havnt had this. My current Dobe bitch is fear aggressive but Ive worked so hard on this so much so we now do low key agility and she is comfortable around strange dogs. She still has her moments with very rude dogs but it is a work in progress.

I wouldnt go for a blue one either as they can have skin problems and other health issues.

Yes I do understand why, which is the reason id rather get one around 12 months so I can get dog sociallised and used to children. If I had a choice id want a black and tan dobe as thats what my diva was. Although im not at all disregarding any suitable dog on colour.

I dont have any other pets I regularly go with my daughter on days out to the forest, we are active outdoors people and its a calm home with just me and my daughter.

CT - she is lovely will call as soon as im awake tomorrow, hopefully she is suitable and will like us as much as im sure we will like her.

She's lovely! Fingers crossed for you DEEDEE.:)

Sadly after phoning Jade is not able to be rehomed to us because I have a child. Im gutted but the rescue is looking out for us and Jade. Im going to see another of there dogs next weekend and ive also found a rottie cross pup avaliable from the Mayhew. So as sad as I am about lovely Jade im determined to rescue and not buy.

Good luck with your search but please open up to an older dog as often these come in after marriage break ups as opposed to the 12 month olds who are often untrained puppies.

Yes, im happy for any age as long as over 12 months. I just cant have a young pup as work part time and dont feel a puppy should be left alone.

Tbh im not fussed about age although Id like me and my daughter to have a good through years together with the dog. I suppose anything up until 6ish is ok but the older dogs seem to say no children due to being an older dog. I guess its a waiting and patience game.

I see a rottie x dobe on gumtree today apparently needs gone today. So sad that people advertise there dogs like an old tv. As much as the dog was lovely I feel gumtree isnt the way I want to go especially an "urgent first come first served" add.

Gutted. :( I understand they're looking out for you, but I honestly think she'd be fine with your daughter. Poor dog.

Good luck with your search:let us know when you find something. :)

Im gutted too, my daughter (not bias) is sensible, calm and aware of the fact a dog can be unpredictable. She has been semi responsible for her two ponies for 2 years now and I feel its a shame we couldnt even go see her but I guess I appreciate they know her. Im going to see Miley and have contacted doberman welfare and applied to DG's links too. I will keep looking x

Dont be in a hurry, be selective, there are a lot of Dobes/Rotties out there, not necessarily on those sites but in foster care. My last 2 were not even put up on the site because they were so busy.

We rehomed a Dobie (18month old) from the Mayhew, we found them very helpful and sensible (Nb we dont have kids tho which probably helped but they were def more reasonable than some other rescues).

Monty Chops with his little pal (hes rubbish with other dogs, even residential professional training didnt help, but as they have 40 acres of their own it doesnt really matter here!)

Good luck with your search, just treat any dog you adopt with caution with children (but that applies to any breed).
