My horse when in work can be a bit slow, falling out of trot and canter, although this has slightly gotten better. Being walked out on in hand he is still really slow. when he is being ridden his ears are flicking back and forward the full time and he can swish his tail alot too (it is really heavy and thick not sure if that could be why).? Had his saddle fit checked. Now looking at his back being checked but who is best to go for - chiro/physio or massage therapist.? His last owner was quite an unbalanced heavy rider with heavy hands so thinking his back could be sore and could do with a good massage but not entirely sure what the other two actually do and what would be more beneficial to him.? if any are even reccommended.?

what type is he? I am assuming possible cob given the tail comments. If that is the case given what you describe from a medical point of view I would want pre and post exercise bloods taken to rule out a muscle myopathy.

His back could also be sore (though not from events 2 years ago) so it wouldn't be the wrong thing to get a bodyworker out, they will need veterinary permission though so best to speak to your vets and see if they have a recommendation.

I attended a vet talk on hidden pain in ridden horses recently and the message it left me with was....you know your horse and if you think something isn’t right call the vet out. There is an ongoing study which has identified 28 indicators ..including those you mentioned and if 8 or more are evident then a vet work up was advised. Hope
You get a solution.
