Took Jasper out for a little hack on out own (something which 4 months ago I would not have done!). All was going swimmingly, we even had a short canter and he was being as good as gold
We came across a man walking his dog, a cavalier king charles who was not on a lead. It ran towards Jasper, so I called to it's owner to ask him to call his dog back. He either didn't hear me or ignored me. I kept trying to attract his attention but to no avail. Now Jasper is usually fine with dogs, but by this time it was sniffing around Jasper's legs! Jasper then decided to take matters into his own hooves and did what felt like a capriole!! This took me somewhat by surprise, and I shouted out a very rude word
THAT got the blokes attention!!! He sheepishly walked over and retrieved his dog. I told him he was bloody lucky the dog hadn't been either trodden on or kicked in the head! He did apologise.
Now, had that happened a few months ago, I think I would have a) fallen off or b) got off, but I am very pleased to say that I stayed on, and didn't panic
Jasper was as good as gold after, and even went past a horse-eating van pulling a trailer on a narrow lane shortly afterwards
I'm so glad I started having lessons, I really feel like we're making progress
