hi,

i'm not sure whether i should be worrying, well i am anyway :-(

Bertie has been a bit loose over the last week, i have put it down to spring grass, our paddock is very short but i'm sure there must be lots of new grass coming through.

anyway, i opened a new bag of horsehage (timothy) on thu night and noticed had a lot of white yeast on it, which i believe is ok but i threw away these bits and fed him as usual two slices. Fri morning as i pull out another slice i notice it is black and mouldy in the middle of the bale and the inner wrapping is not sealed, to be honest i didnt notice any unusual smell (bad mummy) and kick myself as i should have checked further into the bale.

in the night i could tell he had been rolling do u think he could have had colic? i let him out of his stable he walked over to his horsehage and tucked in (new bale) he seemed fine so didnt see any reason to panick, i checked on him mid morning was fine.

went on small steady hack this morn all ok, went to put him to bed tonight and saw him do a normal poo, but then 1/2 later he had liquidy squirty poo, (think cow pat) goes back to his hay for a bit, then goes to lie down which is unusal for him when there is food about he then has a roll, gets up and starts on his horsehage again. I watched him for 20 min he showed no signs of discomfort, no looking at belly etc, I left him eating, im going to go back up in a bit to check on him.

Do you think this could be the affects from the horsehage even though he didnt actually have any of the black mouldy bits, but he did have two slices from the same bale!, or could this be from the rich grass, as he has had loose droppings before the bad haylage bale, perhaps i've had a whole batch of bad bales!

Should i be worried?

OMG i have written an assey, i'm so sorry,

thank you for reading.

hi,

ive been up to check him, been there for an hour!, he was lying down but got up for a fuss and didnt look distressed, I am hoping he would be lying down normally at that time of night anyway. think he wondered why i was there at this time of night. I have left them both out in a smaller sectioned off bare area. The lady that lives there will check on him for me before she goes to bed and first thing. Although i will be there first thing anyway!

if i'm at all not sure about him tomorrow i will give the vet a call, think i will also keep him off the grass for a few days and see it this clears squits up,

Horses - who'd ave em!!
