can anyone help i'm at my whits end with daughters pony.
He is fine during the summer when out in field but as soon as he comes in in the winter he gets upset tummy. His droppings are not too loose it is more like wind but not dry(yuck) if you stand too close it's like he's got a water pistol up his bum!have tried various supplements last winter but none seem to work he is fed adlib hay and a bit of hi-fi i really feel it 's not food related but probably stress cos of limited winter turnout
he is a wind sucker as well which probably doesn't help. I want to be on top of this this winter before he comes in anyone any ideas please help

My first guess would be that it is the stress of suddenly being contained by 4 walls. My mare went through a period of having watery gassy droppings a few years ago, for no apparent reason. Her belly noises were very loud and the slightest move made her fart like mad. Better out than in I know, but she was so uncomfortable and her legs and tail were a mess. I added sugar beet to her diet and it stopped straight away and thankfully has never come back.

thanks for quick reply yes i think it is the stress of being in aswell and want to prevent the problem this winter my poor daughter gets fed up of washing legs and tail! might try the sugar beet anything is worth trying thanks!

Poo juice..... I have this problem all through the summer. Have changed to a supplement called Biotal Gold. Its eased my grass intolerant mare's problem no end, it completely dried up my friends mare in 10 days. Its yeast based so might help.. Good Luck

Pink powder helps my mare when she has a sloppy bum

its good to know it's not just me with a poo problem pony was begining to be disheartened! will take a look at biotal gold can you feed it daily? i did try pink powder last winter but it didn't helpthe problem is i try something then something else and before i know it the winter is over and i've not found a solution (even considered a cork but the build up behind it would be dangerous!)read a bit on line about coligone anyone used that for wind suckihg poo bum and had good results? i have phoned their helpline but am still awaiting a reply

thanks if anyone knows kates user name please post it
good reviews from a product would be useful cos it is expensive which i don't mind paying if it works but tried a few supplements to date with little joy! its a shame the don't offer a free month trial cos you get a bit reluctant to keep wasting money!

Hi. I have the same problem with my little welshie and am going to begin adding brewers yeast to her feed in the hope that a) it helps chill her out and b) it helps her tum to settle. At our current yard the grazing we have just won't support her living out over winter.

i have very limited winter turnout(not every day)which i'm sure is the cause of the problem
the brewers yeast your giving i don't really know much about
how much would you give etc who recommended it ?

You can feed it every day as its only a yeast supplement. Pink powder was rubbish for my mare, made no difference whatsoever. The other 2 I found to be good were Feel Good 30 Digestion and Bailey Digest plus. I tend to change every other season as my mare seems to get more benefit that way, Also tried the acti prem pellets, but they weren't as good. The other good news is Biotal Gold is the cheapest product too.

TRIED PINK POWDER AND BAILEYS NONE REALLY DID ANYTHING
found kates user name was just goin to send her a mesage and she returned my phone call
very good advice given and feel confident coligone is going to help(fingers crossed) thanks kate
will report results in november when pony comes in(i know its ages off but been worrying about it already to the extent was gonna sell the pony!!)

i would try a pre and probotic supplement plus if it is stree try a calmer as well to take the edge of plenty of fibre and make her stable like a play ground!

I feed a tablespoon a day...I read up about it as well as reading various threads on the forum...have a look on the simple systems website as they have a fair amount of info on it.
