A friend at the yard has asked if I can find out on here if anyone has any suggestions as to why her horse has loose poos. Its not quite as bad as diahorrea but he has had it for a few weeks.
At first she thought it was the hayledge and bought some hayledge balancer to see if that would help. It hasnt so far. The yard have suggested feeding him bran, would this help?
He is 14 and in light work. He is not very fit and does have a bit of a belly. He is always hungry.

Haylege can definately cause loose poo's and the horse in the stable next to me is the same x Apparently nothing really helps him and they have tried balancers and all sorts. He doesnt get much haylege either. x

If Sid gets loose poos I reduce his grass asap (always paranoid about lami). He's on very limited grass and mainly hay at the moment as not in work and our grass is going nuts!

His poos are normally not particularly tight however I've recently added Boswellia and fast fibre to his feeds (previously just formula4feet and chaff) and his poos are beautiful- proper firm, compact little balls (yes I am a complete loser).

Now I can't confirm what is doing this- but I have read Boswellia can firm up dropping so could well be this...

To find out if it is haylage i would suggest getting one or two bales of hay and seeing if it makes a difference. If it does then she will have to consider this option as im sure you know loose droppings isn't great for a horse.

As others have said could be the grass, I feed Psyllium husk for a week once a month. It's not very expensive. Have a look on google, if it does as it says then it's amazing stuff. I use to to clear out the gut.
