As post, had a verbal row on fb earlier with a friend of mine on the subject of loose schooling. I was always led to believe that it thought balance to a young horse, and made it easier to jump off a saddle, however, my friend reckons you should have your horse riding for at least 4 weeks before you attempt to jump anything. I'd so love opinions on this one, just hope i come out on top!!!! I am ONLY loose schooling, just to let everybody know!!1

I'm not sure I understand your question...is your friend suggesting that you should have been riding your horse for 4 weeks before you loose-school it over jumps??

Personally, I have seen more horses crocked up from loose schooling than from being ridden over the same ground.

Yes, my friend is saying ride first, then loose school or not bother at all, I'm only asking because my logic has come into question, and I'm only going on what I know, and have been taught. Everybody I know says loose school, so I'm really just looking for the right way to do it

If your not totally sure about the horse then yes- either loose school or lunge to get the cobwebs cleared! ;)
then ride either after lunging or loose schooling.

Had youngsters i always lunged 1st before getting on them-let them get rid of any bucking farts they wanted to:rolleyes:

loose schooling is good to see how your horse moves-is it balanced or does it have a fave side etc.
and if its fit and sound and you know how to then why not jump it? :o
