I had a really hard fall when I was about 9 as I was galloping and my stirrup leather snapped and my left hip has never been the same since :( Nothing was broken at the time but ever since it has felt numb and ached, particularly during cold weather. I am now the wrong side of 30, have had a child and I am noticing it more and more, particularly in terms of sideways movement and it is simply not as flexible as my right side. I do think that this is affecting my riding and schooling - my horse is also stronger on the right rein so we are both weaker on our left - not a great combination.

Just wondering if any of you lovely HHOers have had any form of treatment on yourselves in an attempt to 'realign' yourself? Physio, chiro, etc or done any form of exercise to help? Did it work?

Google Claire Short osteopath at Ashgrove Clinic. She's got a really helpful video on her home page which may help you decide.

you will have a lot of years of mis-alignment to undo which isn't always possible but a good osteo/chiro/physio should get you on the right road. What exercises are appropriate depend very much on why and how you are wonky. For example I have a wonky pelvis and shoulders and the exercises I do wouldn't be suitable for someone with lower back issues for example :)

I am not straight have hip issues after smashing that last year, also done my ankle and given my neck a fair yank. I find a good chiropractor really helps sometimes a physio this is more for me straight after the incident

Have you tried pilaties? That could really strengthen you core and help straighten you up. Did me the world of good until I found I didn't have time. Hopefully will return this winter.

Not as much of a history as you but have def noticed my one sidedness with new horse who really shows me when I'm wonky. Haven't actioned anything yet but am considering Pilates yoga callentics and physio. Not nec in that order! And continuing with flatwork lessons with an instructor who has a good eye to keep me straight when I'm riding.

Funny hoe the new nag has already had saddle, dentist, massage whilst I am still a creaky ole woman !!

If you can, worth googling Jon Pitt who does " fit to ride" sessions and see if you can get to one of his lessons. Well worth the money and a real eye opener when I had my first session. Let's just say my nice straight youngster was wandering all over the place while he was showing how I was placing myself incorrectly

Jon videos you as well so you can there talk it though and practise the exercises he gives you. Personally, in my case, did not appreciate it as I looked AWFUL!!! Still he does has a GSOH!

Have spent years and too much money on chiros and osteos because of a wonky pelvis. They tend to only give temp relief as the pelvis will fall back to its original position naturally despite manipulation unless the muscles are trained to hold it. I have always been quite anti physio after a bad experience however a friend advised that seeing a good one would help and I would get exercises to help the relevant muscles. Then today a colleague in work recommended the following- she is in herts so quite far from you but the web page is interesting reading.

I've just been manipulated back into shape by a chiropractor, and would def recommend.... He is treating both an acute lower back isue, and a chronic neck one and making great improvements in both :D

It appears I am not the only wonky one - must be an occupational hazard of horses ;)

Thanks for all the suggestions - will look into those :) I'm always cautious of parting with cash (for me, anyway - horses get best of everything!) and would like to decide which type of treatment to go for to achieve the best results.

I did used to do pilates pre baby and we have since moved. Need to see if there are any classes that I can get to as I do think it helped. Might also assist with my lingering baby belly :(

It is really starting to annoy me at present and want to do something about it now before I seize up completely....
