We have been looking at loories but OH wonders if he's being too fussy. He would prefer 75E15 but we seem to see heaps of E14 within our price range. Now he's wondering if there is really such a big difference (esp compared with old lorries a bedford tk (great lorry)and ford cargo (rustbucket)).
Someone(on here) said notice big dif between them when going up hill but is it a really big difference????
Getting desperate for transport as we are in NE Scotland and OH not really keen on popping down south every weekend looking for one (where there is more choice at better prices)

Be very careful if you buy a Bedford.
Parts are a nightmare to find.
Cargo's are fab, but apparently they have a tendancy to jump out of 3rd, well our last one did.
Leylands and Ivecos are fab. We have one now, and it runs like a dream!
What are you looking for?

75e14 is 140 BHP and 75e15 is 150 BHP , so in laymans terms the e15 is a more powerful vehicle - we would not build on a chassis with lower than 150 BHP for horsebox useage. The e14 is a cheaper chassis to buy so that is why they maybe a cheaper lorry to purchase . IMO go for the e15 everytime, especially for your eventual resale. I think it is always worth a day trip out to get the right lorry and not settle for second best because you dont want to travel too far.

I have a 75E15 and find it great. I went round the M25 from Essex, all the way to Wiltshire the weekend before last and where the big lorries were struggling going up the hills, we just ploughed past at a nice constant speed, where they kept speeding up and then slowing when they got to hills.
I find the 75E15 really easy to drive. She trundles along really nicely in 5th Gear.
Forgive me for the lack of knowledge - but the E14 is the older version? and only has 4 gears +R????
I've only had mine since August and looked at the Bedford and Cargo route, but as far as drive, I definately found the Iveco nicer for me.

Tbh I've not had any trouble yet finding parts for my Bedford....think it all depends on who you use to do repairs. I had mine vetted by the guy that advertises in H&H and after the first one I liked failed spent ages talking to him about what to look for on my very very limited budget, and he said in his experience its often mechanics who say parts are hard to get as they then charge you more for them, and he's never had a problem. True to form, used one mechanic for the first 9 months or so, he made a real fuss about anything and you could hear on the phone the old 'oooh, a bedford, thats going to be tricky' line about to come. I changed to a commercial vehicle garage and they've been fab. A starter motor took a whole 3 days to find. Plus they are nice guys. Its hilarious taking old bluebell up there, as they all treat her like an antique (used to working on shiny new HGVs) and all crowd round to have a look!!
So I wouldn't be put of Bedfords necessarily, just make sure whatever you get is a good example of its make, eg if a crago, not a rusty one!!
When we eventually trade up I would like a MAN, a Skania or a Leyland - but I want to go up to a 10t as have my HGV and would like to be able to travel 3 horses ideally.

Yours maybe wasn't mine was exactly that - a F reg rust bucket!!!

Honest it was,but did us proud as always started etc body work just gave up.....
Salt they use on our roads in winter doesn't help (according to OH)

Thanks Iconique and Pathways, will tell OH to hold out for E15 as doubtful we'll have this amount of cash for lorry readily available again !!
Oh I hate being poor!!
Mind you if I were rich what would I strive for!!!!
