Does anyone know how you stand in law with travelling people in the living area of a lorry on a journey, please?

I always go in the living of my lorry if I have friends coming to shows, don't have to have seatbelts in the living unless the seating faces forwards! Asked the dealer we bought it from about sitting in living and he said as long as seats are backwards or sideways then you are fine. There are always people turning up at shows with people in the living.

Well I think if there aren't seatbelts fitted in your lorry, then i believe that is a get out clause.
But still not convinced, all my boxes have seatbelts in them (but then again i run a business and where theres blame theres a claim!!!)
I'm almost certain that if a policecar stopped you and someone was in the living area with no seatbelt, I'm almost 100% certain you'd be fined or get points on your licence.
But then again (how many horseboxes get stopped by police cars) your hardly likely to be braking the speed limit....

ok, legally the cab passengers have to have seat belts fastened that is law - as long as there are seat belts that are fitted in the cab to be utilised - lorries older than 2001 sometimes dont have them fitted, then as for living area - as long as the passengers are not FORWARD facing then seat belts do not have to be fitted - look at motorhomes they dont have seat belts in their living, hope that helps
