according to the lorry drivers and mechanics i've been quizzing over the last few weeks, DAF are also very very good... my mechanic would rather i got a Daf than an iveco ford.
don't get a downrated previously hgv one (as i did with my first lorry) as the chassis etc will be much heavier than necessary.
I have driven friends' Ivecos and whilst they are very powerful, the build quality is poor and they will not stand the test of time. The gearboxes seem particularly bad and likely to need replacing. My Volvo is built like a tank and will outlive me!
We have a Ford Cargo (B Reg) have had it about 9 or 10 years now and when putting through an MOT have been told it's in better nick than many lorries half its age. It's been excellent to drive and has only recently started having some issues but just the battery really (trying to persuade my dad we need a new battery now as opposed to jump starting it!!!
