Does anyone know how we would go about isolating the battery? Where in the lorry do you put it? Where can we buy one and what is the best type to get?

Thanks

I bought mine off ebay.Theres several types on there.I think it is bolted onto the chassis near the battery with a lead connecting it (haven't fitted mine yet). There is a key that you turn to disconnect.Just don't lose it!

I've seen two types - one inside the living area of the lorry which was a handle that you just turned to switch on/off. Ther other is a tiny little switch underneath the lorry, near the battery which turns up for on and down for off. No idea how either were fitted but both work really well.

I would ask whoever services your lorry. That's what I did, it really didn't cost much to fit, about £30 i think and well worth it! Would definfitely recommend getting one fitted, they save so much hassle.

Any good auto factor should be able to get you one. Dont skimp, buy a good one.Connect it from the battery negative,to earth.(you can do it on the positive lead but unless you have a good crimping tool, you will find it more difficult). The big problem is the connectors, any resistance ,is going to affect starting. I have just repaired a nice little VW LT35 that the owner has had starting problems with, for years. The cause was the cheap "Halfords" battery lead ,the mechanic had used ,to connect to the isolator. Use heavy duty cable. Best thing is to get the cables made up by an auto electrician.

Thank you - I'll pass this on to the OH. It's due to go in for a service soon so will probably just get them to do it.

ive just had one fitted, the isolator itself costs £20-30 i bel and i had the someone (lorry mech) fit it on site for me!! its right by the battery on the frame of lorry on inside so no one can really see it, as apparently some b&*&*&ds like to nik the keys off them!!! was the best thing i did to save the tacho draining the battery and in terms of security!!!

I asked for one when I had my lorry converted, thinking Id have a key in the cab, like my friends.. All I got was a handle/lever thing that you move next to the battery which must move the conectors on to and off the battery???. It probably isnt the best thing going but up to know has done its job. My concern was the Tacho draining the battery as I dont use the wagon as often as I should . So by isolating the battery it isnt being constantly drained. Reckon what I ended up with cost hardly anything.
