Lorry downsizing, in seventh heaven

Woop, done my first trip! Spent the morning riding through hundred foot tall fir trees and gazing over the Cheshire plain to the Welsh hills.

Haven't quite got the routine yet :) As I was shutting the top doors to mount and ride away I realised that my whip was still inside. So I went without. Managed to try to open the passenger cab door without closing the top horse door, so put the first nick in the paintwork. But that's ok because I matched it at the back end messing up the reverse out and putting a tiny scratch at the back by brushing the bank as well :D

But I've had a great time!

Ha, it's funny what you don't find out until you use it for the first time. I had a loading malfunction the first time as my horse didn't like the stallion grills (which I had completely forgotten about) then realised i couldn't tie horse up so I could remove them as ties were on the opposite side and not accessible because of where I was parked. Yard is at the back of the house and lorry was at the front, so i had to take horse back to his stable whilst I sorted out the lorry and by the time I got him back and ready to load he had decided it was all too scary and just planted a foot from the ramp and would not budge! Of course, I was on my own and the clock was ticking and i missed my lesson. I should, of course, have tried loading him before I was actually going somewhere! Oh, also discovered the tie was on the far side rather than in the middle (like my old lorry) so it's helpful to have a lead rope already in position to clip straight on! Glad you had a lovely time, you won't notice the scratches in a weeks time as the lorry will be dirty!

I did see your post. It made me very happy I had barn doors and not one on gas struts! Until I read it I thought I wanted one like yours. Headcollar and rope is a good idea.

Smiled at this Oldie. I didn't realise till I parked up that I only have tie rings on the road side :)

That's lovely OP a very smart box

I've recently downsized from a 'big' heavy 3.5t to a much more streamlined van type one and am so thrilled about how easy it is to just jump in and go!

One thing I have used a few times are mini hay blocks and mini nets, really small and really useful to have stashed away 'just in case' for days where you are out longer than expected

I finally scraped together for a very VERY old 3.5t lorry and I am elated too!! I'm 30 and it seems like everyone around me has been mobile for aggggessss aside from me!
Mechanically it's spot on (a bit of rust here and there albeit), brand new floor & ramp. Horses travel a dream.

Of course it's rather embarrassing sat alongside my friends beautiful 1-5yo conversions, but ya know what!? It's getting me out and about and I'm happy as hell!

Congrats on your new purchase & pay no mind to anyone who has something to say :) :)
