Ok, so i keep reading about the new lorry laws coming into place.

Am i right in thinking its something to do with emissions?

I like to think ive been keeping up with all the changes that are going on as ive been reading and checking all the new laws coming in religiously.

However im slightly confused about whatever this one is thats coming in to do with lorries older than an 01 plate and driving round the M25 or something?

I was sure my lorry was up to standard, but now im getting confused and worried!!

Can someone shed some light please!!

(i posted in here as i figured people in here will know more about this!)

It says 'check back at a later time' when i tried to see if our lorry will be affected......

So its for deisel engined lorries over 1.5t (roughly) unladen and before an 01 plate.

Il phone my lorry garage and ask i think

yours is an R reg isnt it so yes yould be affected - you can go on the M25 though the area is just inside the M25 !!!

Lighter lorries
Heavy diesel-engined vehicles between 3.5 and 12 tonnes Gross Vehicle Weight, including goods vehicles, motor caravans, motorised horseboxes and other specialist vehicles.
July 2008
Euro III
January 2012 - Euro IV
All Euro III vehicles meet the LEZ standard

From 4 February 2008 the LEZ emissions standard is Euro III for PM.

Vehicles first registered as new on or after 1 October 2001 are assumed to meet this standard.

Vehicles not meeting the emissions standard could be made to do so by modifying them to meet the Euro III standard for PM.

Vehicles which do not meet the LEZ emissions standard would be subject to a daily charge if used within the LEZ.

From January 2012 the required emissions standard will be raised to Euro IV for PM.

Vehicles first registered as new on or after 1 October 2006 are assumed to meet this standard.

Thats how I read it too Tempi, there is a map on the link that Stacey put up which gives details of what is in the zone and what isn't - very useful!

All roads, including certain motorways within the LEZ boundary are included within the Zone. The M25 motorway is not included in the LEZ even where it passes within the boundary.

There are two lots of regulations coming in next year.

One is the low emissions zone referred to above, which affects most, but not all, roads within the M25. You'd need to look at the boundary map to see if you'd be affected. For example, Patchetts is not within the zone, so as long as you approach it from the North, not a problem. However, the zone in the East and South East does get very close to the M25, so Essex/Kent people may not be so lucky.

The other set of regulations are to do with Certificates of Competence for drivers. These only apply to those transporting horses for commercial gain or as part of their business. Whilst some grooms may get caught up in this, those of us with a horsebox for private use, transporting our own horses for leisure activities, are exempt.

Also VOSA has stated in writing on more than one occasion that private individuals who give lifts to friends for diesel money are also exempt. As long as the money only covers the direct fuel costs and there is no profit involved. That has been a shady area for a long time, so good news.

its only inthe zone but if you go to the site you can put in your reg and it will tell you if your engine complies or not..some Euro 11 do and some dont, my lorry is an S and will need modifiying so yours probably will..its worth doing if you travel in the zone as tickets will be about £200 a day and naturally it will be all days as they want to catch horseboxes so at the moment no free days like the CC.....I only go to once place inside the LEZ so sadly after feb next year I wont be going there again!!....bloody government

what pl;ace is inside the LEZ then >? x

you need to check the site but basically anywhere inside the M25..although the M25 itself is exempt...Im about 15 mins drive in my yard from the edge of the zone but I go to the Diamond Centre in Coulsdon for clinics and that will be in the Zone plus popular places in the Kent area like Arrow Riding centre at Dartford....depends on where you are...mind you dont forget its not just us its all those poor companies like removals that have to comply as well so infact a lot of public will get hit with increase in prices to cover the lorrys being upgraded...

sorry i meant what show centres are inside !!!

I really dont think private horse lorries should be involved in this its not fair !!

I think we should all drive our lorries up to no. 10 downing street and park outside till its changed !!

Its not 10 Downing St thats the problem, its the 'wonderful' Ken Livingstone - he does not drive and I think he wants all cars and lorries off the roads

Its not all roads inside the M25 there are some areas that are exempt as they are not covered by the GLC so the detailed map needs to be checked for where the cameras are going to start.

ok we will go sit outside his house then !!! all of us - ha ha

well it says it runs along my road but the next road across isnt in it !!!

It's not quite a simple as everywhere inside the M25, as Woodlands in Chingford is not in it, but some areas of Rainham, Essex (outside M25 but very industrial, are)

Hopefully there will be whacking great signs warning you that you are entering it!

Will be rather interessting to see the impact it has on Olympia, as it will be in place 24/7

Lets hope everyone going to Olympia can afford up to date lorries that don't get charged - will be more likely to hit the pony club people for the finale and the shetland ponies than most of the show jumping and dressage riders which is a shame.
