When I "turn off" my lorry, the engine has stopped switching off

I can completely take the key out, and the engine carries on. I have had to stall it to shut the engine down, and it will then start again with no probs, but do the same to turn off. Any ideas?!! Very confused!!

a friends has done this apparently it was because the battery wasnt charged enough to shut the engine off. it might be worth having your mechanic some to c it!

Something to do with the fuel pump, possibly?

Only guessing but when my fuel pump cut my fuel off on the motorway (thanks!), rescue man came took out the spring out so fuel would flow once and said I'd then have to stall it to turn engine off so I could get it properly repaired the next day.So maybe your fuel pump spring has gone??

Does it start ok? Mine did this when the stop solenoid went. The rescue guy (cos it wouldn't start without a special techique and I was at a petrol station on the M1!!!) told me to stall it. It didn't cost much to repair from memory.

Wouldn't have thought it was the battery if you can turn it back on again? It would use more battery power starting the engine than turning it off, so if it starts OK, it should have enough power to turn off too.
Mine had just come back from lorry man when it went on it's next trip, so I don't think they go with any warning as such?
Here's hoping it's something easy and cheap to fix anyway!

I'm not an expert on diesel engines (I assume your lorry is diesel), but it sounds like it is a fuel pump or injector problem and there is about a 90% chance it is electrical.

With luck it will be pretty simple (cheap) to fix, but I would speak to your local friendly spanner person.

The problem is either the ignition key switch, the pump solenoid or the fuel pump or just possibly a problem with the wireing loom It is just a matter of your mechanic diagnsoing which of these it is. You should get it fixed as soon as possible to avoid burning out the fuel pump motor.

LoL! Well yeah, but apparently nothing super fiddly ever goes wrong with them....when they do go wrong they are apparently quite easy to sort...I will remind my mechanic he said that when I speak to him!!
