When did you pass car test?
Have you passed any other DSA tests?

I've been mulling this over for a while as well. The thing that puts me off a lorry is the extra maintenance & costs involved ie. tax & MOT whereas a trailer would only require basic maintenance. The trouble is I would need to get a tow vehicle as well but at least it would be put to use elsewhere.

My thoughts exactly NoseyPosey - got quoted £400 just to get lorry to MOT testing station and then any extra if it fails :( at least with trailer maintenance costs will be a lot less and I get myself a newer car in the process ;)

I had this debate earlier this year. Passed my test in 1983 and decided to get a small trailer, dont use it very often and couldnt really justify the extra running costs of a lorry as I still need a 4wd vehicle. I was a bit scared of towing, which is why I was dithering, but have quickly got used to it and am now quite happy dragging my horse behind me. The extra costs are minimal compared to adding a lorry to the mix, in the end that was what swayed my decision. If I was doing a lot of miles, and frequently I would want to upgrade to a lorry though purely for comfort.

!! Why, I take mine myself! If you know a decent mechanic then I would always go for a 7.5 ton lorry, mines 21 years old and was owned by a haulage company so very well looked after, only 198k kilometers, I've had it 8 years now and spent around 2k on it so far; New disc pads etc and new tyres, apart from that its been brilliant and I have good living for when I go camping :)

Fair enough if you need a 4 x 4 anyway and you are confident towing ( scares me! ) I share a car and cycle to work when I can so having my lorry is a must for me :)
