How much does everybody pay for lorry parking? Currently my yard charges £10 per month, which is very reasonable, but I've just had an e-mail to say that they are increasing the fee to £75 per month. I'm absolutely gobsmacked! I was thinking of selling my lorry as I dont use it much, but this has made my mind up for me.

Personally as a YO I've never charged for lorries - but have always said that they can park "at own risk" and it is purely at my discretion (or not, as the case is); and neither does a professional/BHS yard near me (what they actually do is invite "donations" which are then put towards an equine-related charity such as Air Ambulance, RDA or whatever). The logic being is that if you charge for it, then you accept responsibility for it; which if you have something like a lorry with fuel in the tank, then this creates a bit of an insurance issue.

I think ours is £20 a month, to at this time of year park the truck and trailer in a puddle 🤣, Does depend a bit on lorry size though I think, none of the yards I've been at would have space for a 7.5T

I'm being charged £60 a month for trailer parking, after only buying a trailer because I was promised free parking 🤣 So anyone, literally anyone in Hampshire offering cheaper trailer parking, please, please get in touch.

No space on my yard (and would probably get stolen) so we're mostly driveway at home parkers, but I enquired locally for lorry parking out of interest. Local yard does outside parking £60/month (for non liveries/strangers) with CCTV and very secure gates; caravan/motorhome place does outside parking for £50/month with CCTV but no access before 05.30 or return after 22.00 so outside those hours you need to plan a bit (though most just take/leave at yard and do a one off parking on the side of main road (no space for 7.5t on yard), which hasn't ever bothered anyone); finally one lady I know at an equally small neighbouring yard has rented a driveway space for her 6.5t for £20/month outside someone else's house. We are in Brighton encatchment, so not exactly the land of plentiful space!

Makes me wonder if your yard would rather not have the lorries there perhaps?

I don’t think £75 a month for parking is crazy, seems pretty reasonable to me, yes it’s a leap in cost but I don’t think it’s unreasonable.

We’ve got a (non horse) 3.5t lorry and I’d expect to pay that if we wanted to keep it elsewhere.

Ours is £50pm which I felt was quite steep, albeit they have probably fifteen+ 3.5/7.5/trailers/caravans/food trucks parked so they do devote a fair amount of space to it. We have padlocked gates, people living on site, security lights, CCTV I believe but I'm not 100% sure and dogs which would raise the alarm should something be going on on the yard and it is on hardcore rather than grass so can't really complain. It just feels like a lot in a way I can't explain 🤣

I’m not sure what they charge at our yard as I keep mine at a different farm undercover on concrete which is better for it. I think I pay about £40 or £45 a month for that. It’s an open fronted barn but the rest of the lorry is under cover. That is a huge increase particularly if you weren’t told about it. If it is too expensive, can you find a farm nearby to park at?
