Could anyone tell me how much I would expect to pay for lorry plating each year?

We are thinking of upgrading to a lorry are there any other expenses I should consider before I bankrupt us ;-)

How long is a piece of string?

The lorry has to be have its underside pressure washed prior to inspection. Invariably it's better to have a mechanic give it a pre inspection check to find out what may be wrong & have it rectified prior to testing as your vehicle would fail & you'll have to wait for another test date....which could be weeks.

You could get away with a bill of a couple of hundred, or there again you could pay substabtially more. Unless the lorry has a full mechanical history, which many don't, you cannot really know what will need replacing/repairing & parts are expensive & lorry mechanics are also expensive. I know this doesn't tell you what you want to know but there is no definative answer. :)

Got to agree there! Its just gone up to £95 for the test alone!! Mine is a 1999 Merc Chasis which has a full merc service history when I bought it from the dealers in 2006! In 2008 mine cost me £2000 to get through its plaiting, in 2009 it was £500 and this year it cost me £75 because my new boyfriend is a mechanic ;)

So it is an unknown....something big and expensive could break on it like mine did in 2008 or you could have a lucky year like this year when it sailed through :)

well........... my bedford tk failed 1st mot .. on a minor thing.

it cost me 1000

this was 75 mot 37 re test

105 parts

the rest was labour.. i was well and truely done over.. and that was by a big horse box firm!

Wow, think I fell lucky, mine cost about £400 inc labour, that included the test, mechanic taking it for test, new legislation wide angle mirror, repairing my reverse lights and new bushes?? And what did I do, sell it aaaagh :eek::D

Well, I have started (for the last 5 years) taking the horsebox to the test myself and seeing what it fails on and then just getting that fixed. Retest is normally fitted in quickly because they reserve time slots for retests.

It works out much cheaper and often doesnt need anything doing. Before that it was always at least £500 - £1000 because somehow the mechanic always found something to fix. I just powerjet the underside with a domestic powerjet unit.

I've been extremely lucky with mine; 1991 Leyland Roadrunner, apart from two new tyres and new brake pads ( altogether about 1k spent) Thats in in 6 years! last year only the cost of plating.

I've never washed under mine either!

Just need someone who knows what they are looking at before you buy
