Is it just me or is 10k a lot of money for a 20yr old vehicle?, especially when some are not in the best of condition and you can no longer get parts for them. I can't believe the prices some are going for!!!

I currently own a nice little 3.5 tonner, but hopefully have a new horse coming this week and have been thinking about going back to a 7.5 tonner, but looking at prices, can't afford to swap!!

What about buying and converting yourself, or my next option would be to buy a chassis cab and buy an alloy container of the like of David Williams containers. This is by far the cheapest way, you get a decent wagon and because the body is alloy it weighs very little meaning extra payload and better fuel economy. They should have a website and they are based in Brymbo by Wrexham.

Have been giving that some thought, the only problem being I would have to sell mine to raise the cash to have one converted, so would be without transport which is'nt really an option at the mo.

IN real terms if you get a body from Williams (they are already made in standard sizes) you only need someone to 'plop' it on the chassis cab. So however you do it shouldnt take more than a couple of weeks and I would expect to not be paying more than about £12k for brand new body and decent age wagon!

I would have thought so - ours is an 1986 Man and we are looking for £5,750 for it complete with brand new generator.

I don't think £10k is unreasonable for a 1987 wagon...depending on the condition of the chassis, and the body on top

It really depends what you want i guess....

As for the Ifor bodies that are mentioned above....all well and good so long as you don't want to carry anything bigger than about 15.2hh

Prices of wagons up here are defo cheaper than down your way Rambo, I was not referring to IFOR Williams containers, there is a another Builder in North Wales, David Williams and they do all kinds of horse and livestock containers, I used to have one on my old wagon and we travelled some massive horses in it (17hh++)

Mine is 26 years old and we paid £3500 for it....Ok it is on a bedford, so parts might not be the easiest, but it has been a horsebox for 20+ years, so relatively low mileage, and had it fully checked out by the guy who advertises in the H&H and he said very little wrong with it, the odd bit of welding on the cab but nothing vital. Looks pretty good for its age too, and drives fine. Maybe not as well as something 15 years old instead of 26, but certainly as easy as my friend's 20 year old VW LT.
Think the reasonably priced ones are out there, you just have to look hard! We saw a few absolute duds!

I have a Leyland Daf for sale B reg and I'm looking for around £3k for it(althought if they are going for around £20k maybe I'm not pricing it right

I have been trying to sell an L reg high mileage lorry for £5000 for over 2 months now, it runs fine fitted out nicely is not a Luton but has a small cut through, it has a little rust but nothing really much wrong with it, can I sell it - no! why?
One person came to look and said it was too big for one horse, but it is advertised as taking 3 large ones! another said it was too big for 3 ponies! another said it needed respraying but still came and looked twice before changing her mind and someone else said the cut through was small - and I had told her the exact size!

Poss it is too expensive? I have just bought an M reg with living v low mileage lorry (75 thousand KM) for less than £8K. I looked for ages and TBH really high mileage put me off.

Do you have contact details address and phone number for David Williams Horseboxes as I have searched and can not find their details?

Peter Natt

Here's details of mine:-

MOT/tax December 2007. British Racing Green with metallic gold stripe. Partitioned for 4 but would need to be small ponies to be within legal weight. Substantial, well padded partitions. New rubber on ramp.

Comfortable living area - h/c water, small oven, fridge, plenty of Oak cupboards, roomy luton, walk in cupboard/toilet (has portaloo in it at present). Sleeps four - 2 on luton and 2 on bed that folds out from seating area. Wired for generator (Honda) last year but only used once since.

Lots of pics here!
