We spent yesterday replacing the wood on my lorry ramp but now need something to go over the top.

I would ideally like a rubber covering with the raised ridged, can anyone recommend a good place to get the from? Preferably light weight and as cheap as possible?

Open to any alternative suggestions?

I get all my rubber mats, etc etc from http://www.polymax.co.uk/

I usually collect from them, but they are on an army base and you need clearance (which can be a nightmare), but they are only 25 minutes from me. They will deliver, but rubber stuff is heavy, so won't be a fiver to you.....

I was on a budget once, and used a piece of wool carpet with wooden battens screwed across it. Worked a treat, and will probably outlast the box. Didn't stay cream for long though...

I've got 6mm ridged rubber for mine, but will be using plenty of wooden battens to hold it in place, otherwise I imagine that it will rip and end up in a tangled mess at the bottom of the ramp. Off ebay, paid about £30 for a roll. Wish I'd known about Coat-X though.

My advice is to avoid rubber matting at all costs. We removed the very thin rubber mat from our old lorry ramp and wow the difference in the ease of lifting the ramp was phenomenal. Those mats with the inbuilt ridges are the worst - so very heavy - a horse lorry builder told us tha so many people did not realise what weight they were adding by using these. If you think a normal thick 6 x 4 stable mat weighs 75kg - you can double that for the ramp size - that's nearly a small pony's weight you are adding.

We bought a ramp kit from ebay very cheapy (I recall around £60) that consisted of tough coars ramp carpet and 5 metal runners to go accross and act as anti slip bars for the horse. I was really pleased with it - not only did it look smart I could clost the ramp with one hand after the refurb. I would suggest you 'Google' for ramp carpet kits - I am sure one of the many wholesalers for lorry conversions will sell them.
