Lorry Warranty? Is it possible to get this like a car Warranty?

As title says really...

looking at buying a second hand lorry and the OH was worrying about costs if engine, clutch etc went.

We have a warranty on our cars which covers major breakdown - does anyone know if we can get this for a lorry?

Does anyone have this?
 
I managed to get 6months warranty on my lorry, was 2nd hand but bought from the manufacturer. I would imagine you would be able to negotiate something, espescially if the seller is confident about the vehicle?!
 
I think the OP is asking if you can buy after market warranties as supplied for cars by warranty direct and Tescos to name but a few.In all my years around commercial vehicles I have never heard of any as most commercials will either be sold new with a comprehensive 3yr warranty or you purchase a maintenance package for X years which covers the vehicle totally in this spell.
So the answer is no as both have to apply from the chassis being new.Most lorries if well maintained give very little major problems,clutch and brakes would not be covered anyway as they would be considered items that wear !
 
Thought this might be the answer but the OH may not like it....

Im thinking that the lorry has been maintained with a 'open cheque book', hence I'm keen on buying it - however having had engine 'go' on car last year, the OH is panicking how much a lorry engine would be....

To be perfectly honest lorry costs are comparable with the cost of running a modern car. Having worked in the industry for 15yrs I can assure you that there is no magic thing that makes lorry parts cost more than car parts (in fact they are quite often a lot less!). Just be sure to keep up with regular use and servicing and you won't have any untoward issues.

I will also try and reassure you that lorry parts are invariably a lot cheaper than cars.With buying an older box you will have a lot of used parts available for example you can pick up good used engines for £5-600 .These vehicles are built to be more reliable than your everyday car just keep up the maintenance,find a good mechanic and also make sure you add breakdown cover to your insurance.I do all my own maintenance but make sure the breakdown cover is in place as one recovery will potentially cost 4times if not more the premium.You never quite know whats around the corner!
 
If you find your local Serck Intertruck place you can pick up parts very much more cheaply than at the main dealers. I went through a phase of having people drive at me on narrow lanes meaning I took out 3 wing mirrors on hidden branches in quick succession - you can buy an entire new mirror from them (including plastic casing etc) for a tenner, main dealer quoted £30 for the same thing. Parts are similarly cheaper! Parts for all my lorries have always been cheaper than parts for my car....

^^^ Thats who I used to work for ^^^ They are just called Intertruck now, but any commercial place will be cheap enough, they are falling over themselves to be the cheapest now.
