Lorry weights - help please!

Hopefully off to view really nice little box soon. Its advertised as 3.5 tonne although does have some extras like a hob, sink and fridge so im panicking a bit about its payload etc.

we will only ever be taking one horse in it - the lady advertising it has sent me a picture of its stamps etc on it and im a bit confused as to what they all mean in relation to its weight!

they say......

axle 1 max weight 1500kg
axle 2 max wieght 2210kg
gross weight 3500kg
train weight 5500kg

Now please forgive me for sounding a bit thick but what is the difference between gross weight and train weight? is it a 3.5 tonne box?

Obviously if we go to see it we will ask to take it to a weighbridge.

What sort of payload would you be looking for to carry a 16hh ISH and your kit?

You need to know how much your horse weighs. Also allow for full tank of fuel (1 litre = 1 kilo), yourself, any passengers, tack, water, food.
You may find there isn't enough play in the payload as living can be heavy on the weight. When I was looking around I heard of one box which was weighed with NO horses on board and the payload was 10 kg! And yes, I did mean to write ten kg.

Take it to a weighbridge and do not rely on anything the seller tells you!

My 7.5t horsebox is 5.84t Unladen with 2 people in it

However if I take out the partitions, the spare wheel, people and make sure there's no water and little fuel in it, then I can get it to under 5.5T and have a referee saying it was my lorry on the weighbridge

Your GW is 3500, unleaden is your 2 axle weight, 2210.
Take 2210 from 3500 is 1290..that's the Payload (what you can carry)
Train Weight is the Vehicle (3500) plus a Trailer of 2000 = 3500, which if you haven't passed your test before 1997, you wouldn't be eligable to drive a "train weight" vehicle.
Regards to you 16hh and kit, if it all weighsd less than 1290, then you'll be under the legal 3500 limit.

I guess the question is wether these weight stamps were done with the 'extras' in ie the cooker and fridge.

As I say we will only ever be taking one horse in it. I guess the only thing to do is get it to a weigh bridge if we go and view it.

These are its max allowable weights so axle 1 that is the front one and it mustnt weigh more than 1500 ditto axle 2( back ) gross is the total alowable for the vehicle including its load on its own.. and the train weight is the max weight for the vehicle its load and a trailer the only way to find its capacity is to take it to a weighbridge.... and payload i would think you would need about 800/ 1000 kg to cover the horse,you and tack food water etc.....

no it dosent sorry wrong !!!!! all these weights are manufactures design weights and not actual, means nothing with regard to its payload
you are almost right about the train weight but you must take into acount the actuall weight of the vehicle to know what you could tow .....
