This is doing my brain cell in

If you are carrying 3 full size horses in your lorry, ( 7.5t) and by full size I mean something like 1 at 17hh and 2 at 16hh, how wide is your lorry?

My current lorry is 7' wide internally, with 12' horse area length, and although the big lad can go in with an extreme herringbone, it is quite a shuffle and wouldn't leave much room for the other 2.

So I have been looking at other lorries, thinking that ideally 7'10 is what I need, but many people say they travel big horses in 7' 5" or even less. Will an extra 5" really make a difference? (no Finbar Saunders jokes please 🤣)

If it's stalled as as a proper herringbone, ie on the hypotenuse, it should be ok. How long is your 17hh?

(I know that's not the question you asked, but do watch out for weight limits - most 7.5t (with living, which, as the horse area is only 12ft long, I assume your box has) wont have the pay load to take 3 horses)

Thank you - he isn't particlualry long bodied, but has a HUGE shoulder and a long neck.

My current lorry is only 17' total length and has a tack area rather than living, so has a huge payload - I am very concsious of payload, but I know many aren't :( I'm looking for something similar to keep the payload of at least 2t.

I dont think mine is unusually wide but I travel a shire in it. It's sometimes a bit tight to turn but I set the partition to be really diagonal so she has tons of room.

7ft is fairly narrow for 7.5t and with 12ft length I would think it would be a bit cosy for 3 large horses? Mine is 7ft6in wide and 10ft and I would happily put 2 very large horses in, not sure I would put 3? I travel 2x16hh and there is def room for a pony.

Thank you LJ, just the sort of 'user data" I was looking for 👍

So 7'6" is wide enough if herringbone, but 10' length means only 2 big uns. Good to know 😁
