Today I had a conversation that completely affirmed my growing suspicions that people are the most vile creatures on the planet.
A well known and respected horseman advised my friend to have her 3 year old filly put down because it has been misbehaving. His reasoning was that why should she waste her time on this one when she can get another one with a nicer temperament. The horse is 3! It is expected to be pushing boundaries. He said that he doesn't hold with bad manners in his stable and that "the only cure for a problem horse is a bullet" then adding that he'd had his son's horse put down last week for the same reason.
I knew his son's horse and loved it. It was very talented and yes, a bit nutty, but not dangerous. The horse was 12 years old.
I'm calming down as I write this, now and realising that my reaction to this comment is a bit extreme (I burst into tears and swore I'd never speak to another human being again) but it comes after a long period of witnessing the incomprehensible cruelty with which one human being can treat another.
The xenophobic violence here resulted in hundreds of refugees lining the streets of my city and begging for anyone to shelter them, the ongoing crisis in Zimbabwe now looks more hopeless than ever, some miserable "horse trainer" tied a horse to a pole and beat it until it collapsed in SA a few months ago, that prat dumped those poor ponies in that field, there are people starving to death down the road here, and all I ever hear from people when they are asked to do something, even just speak out against it, is "why should I?"
So I propose we send every apathetic troll to some god-forsaken island somewhere. The absolute turd who dared to tell my friend to have her horse shot can keep company with the prat who dumped the ponies. I'm sure those horse-slashers would get on like a house on fire with the horse-beater. And good old Mugs can demonstrate his philosophy on leadership where no one who matters suffers.
Sorry about my rant... I'm off to google "relocation to mars" now.
