My horse was in a really horrible mood today, he's recently lost his first tooth (he'll be 3 in may) and he kept trying to bite me when I was poo picking, telling him off wasn't working, so I slapped him on the neck the neck the next time he tried, and then he went into all out battle with me! rearing up, striking out at me, and basically trying to kill me! (he doesn't respond well to being told off, I know that but this was pure evil)

so just wondering whether anyone else horses got bity when they were losing their teeth?

also noticed him rubbish his cheeks on the side of the barrow in the last couple of days, so wonder if he might be in pain, either way, I'm going to book the vet to come and check his teeth this week

Sounds like he was bored and just wanting to play. Slapping on the neck is nothing but telling him you want to play - young horses will bite each other as an instigation to play.
Next time use whatever you are poo picking with to whack him across the chest hard.

I did eventually hit him with the poo scoop, and that made him worse! that was when it got really bad, he followed behind the barrow half rearing and striking out. I turned around a screamed F Off at him and finally he got the hint and ran off.

I think he is bored that's for sure! as he started chasing the shettie when she came under the fence later on, which then wound him up more! roll on the end of the summer when I can back him and try and stop him from being so bored!
