Box rest is doing my head in..

Both my horses have been off now for over 4 months and still have a long foreseeable future to go.. Competing and riding has been dismissed for the rest of the year, how depressing..

Twice the mucking out and no riding, seems legit ;)
 
Been there, done that for 12months. You have my sympathy. Find someone local who needs one riding. Preferably something that needs schooling with the proviso you get to compete it a bit.

You not know someone who would let you have a ride for fun once in a while?
I know it's not the same as your own, but it could still be a bit of a release from the pressure, and 2 on box rest is definitely a pressure for anyone x
 
My instructor has horses I can ride/jump but if anything it makes me more depressed coming back to the stables and seeing my two in :( after all this time I still don't know if they'll ever come right again, pain in the bum!
 
I feel for you, I have a PSG boy who I am just about to bring back into work after 2 years of lameness. Im not sure if he will stay sound once back in work but i have to give it a go.
I lost my last dressage boy when he paralysed himself in the field and the one before that i lost to colic.
I have come to the conclusion that life is S**t!

Sorry but at times I have to smile at the concept of how and why how tough you are finding it but of course your equines aren't, are they? :rolleyes:

Yeah 'cos it's obvious OP couldn't give a rats @rse about her horses, isn't it?

Glad you find enjoyment out of other people finding things difficult :rolleyes:

OP - no it's not fun, especially when you have the ongoing worries as to their future. My boy spent the majority of the winter on box rest, with a guarded prognosis (he's retired anyway) and yes, I've felt down too. How awful and uncaring of me :rolleyes:

Just need to hang on in there - mine is now doing well out and hopefully so will yours x

I'm finding it tough because I have to come down every day and see how depressed and confused my horses are, I'm finding it tough to see them in pain and I'm finding it tough to come to terms with the fact that they might never come right.. Unless you're in my situation then don't dare try to judge me and say that I shouldn't be feeling sad about it, if my horses are distressed then so am I, sorry for feeling compassion and sympathy towards them..

Put yourself in my shoes and see how frustrated you are after 4 months of box rest with two angry horses that don't even want to know you cause they think your keeping them in to be cruel.
 
Jcoombs- I for one didn't even think your op was for a sympathy vote, anyone who's cared for a horse on box rest know the worst thing is seeing your horse stuck in, so you certainly have no obligation to explain yourself because of one unhelpful post. Hope they're both on the mend soon x
 
You will get through it. You have to take joy in the little things, grooming and such.
It's never nice seeing our horses unhappy.

well said.....box rest is so upsetting for all concerned, are you allowed to walk out in hand? I realise that wont help much but if you can do it then it might lift everyones spirits a little. I've only ever had 1 on box rest so to have 2 is really rotten. I dont usually do hugs...but you defo need a hug!!
 
i don't know your situation or why your horses are on box rest , but is it at all possible for them to go out in a small taped off field for a couple of hours ? depending on the reasons of rest of course :) i have found that when i've done this the horses heal quicker and all our sanity is preserved
 
No they can't :-( she's on in hand walking for collateral ligament damage and he has ripped his coronet band so he is on minimal movement, pain in the bum for all of us :(
