I've been there @Muddywellies, that feeling of being lower than a snake's belly because you're bigger than a 14. It's like that snobby saleswoman in "Pretty Woman", they look you up and down with disdain as if you're a bit of sh*t on their shoe. I can't wear anything from Joules, Horseware or Ariat at the moment (too tight, I'm big on the chest and shoulders), I have just managed to get back into my Ariat Bromonts which feels amazing.
My aim is to fit back into my nice clothes of the above brands but I do find it ridiculous that when I was slim (size 12/14) I still needed XL or XXL in Ariat Joules etc. And funnily enough those are the sizes that sell out first...so. Am I abnormal or are tiny sizes abnormal? It's soul destroying.
Soul destroying indeed. I too am flabbergasted when some manufacturers call a size 14, XL!!?? I know there are now specialist manufacturers catering for curvy ladies but I just haven't found I'm especially drawn to their products. I recently put a post on here looking for cost-effective long boots to fit my 44cm calfs and most of the recommended boots only went up to a 39cm (that's considered to be xw!?) or I had to pay on average £500 (I think some were £300 but some were up nearly £1000) for bespoke ones. Yikes!

I’ve never been overweight but a few years ago due to meds, and being a bit naughty with the mochas and biscuits, I went to the higher end of what is classed as acceptable at my height. The hospital told me my BMI was in the healthy range, but when I checked the chart, it was nearing the higher end for someone 5ft 3 and a bit. I have now lost nearly 2 stone and am at the lower end of the BMI Range now for my height. I don’t eat particularly healthy food (not unhealthy, just normal) but I am aware that it goes towards my daily calories. I have breakfast, lunch and tea, and I allow myself 2 or 3 biscuits after tea. If I’m hungry in the day and I cave and grab a biscuit, I knock one off my evening ration.
I also listen to my body now. I’m aware of when I am genuinely hungry and when I’m just craving or bored. If I’m genuinely hungry, I will grab a snack and I don’t feel guilty about it because I think that my body must need it so is running low on fuel. I’ve kind of likened myself to a car with a need for petrol! I make sure I put enough petrol in to see my through the day, but if I have a slow day or slow few days, I cut back on the petrol.
No idea if this is helpful to anyone, but has certainly helped me. I now maintain a weight generally between 8.9 and 8.11 stone. I like to have a little buffer as I think it’s soul destroying to give yourself a weight you must stay at as by nature we fluctuate due to water and things. If you give yourself a weight you will allow yourself to fluctuate between, it seems to help (this might be completely psychological!)

Snooty sales assistants belong in the same category as ringside bitches: inadequate, probably insecure, close enough to the action to have an opinion but not actually able to be part of it. Please don’t give any value to their behaviour. Or, as my friend would say, ‘f’ em’.

We work bloody hard for our money (I know I do)! It is too valuable to hand over to a person or organisation that thinks it‘s ok to treat customers like crap. And if equestrian clothing companies are not making what the market needs, then maybe we need to let them know.

I am 6ft and a reasonably healthy size 14. I know what it is like trying on clothes that are not made for Amazon bodies like mine. It is soul destroying. I have found a couple of amazing retailers who do really well cut tall clothes ranges. When you find them, support them, they’re gold!

Big up to all you kick-ass women out there - keep doing you!

I wish that would satisfy me. But I have a huge appetite. This morning I've been absolutely ravenous. 2 bananas didn't even touch the surface. Couple of hours later, two more. Nope, still starving. I've eaten SIX bananas this morning. Now tucking into a hearty lunch of salad, chicken breast and 2 boiled eggs. Hopefully that'll now see me till teatime. I wish the odd biscuit would satisfy my hunger ?

Hahaha I am exactly the same "Oh if you're hungry just have a piece of fruit!" No, fruit does noooothing for me. I wish it was socially acceptable (or food safe) to carry around packets of sliced ham. Lockdown silver lining is having ham snacks.

I really recommend Joe wicks 90 day challenge, I couldn't lose anything for years and I tried many things! It got to the point where I went to the doctors to check my thyroid and have blood tests done as I was doing crazy amount of exercise and eating clean and still I was almost 14 stone (I'm 5ft7).
I'm not sure what sort of sorcerery beholds of the 90 day plan but I lost 2 stone in 9 weeks! I kept losing more and had to up my chocolate intake as I was losing it so quickly and all together I lost 3 a bit stone in about 4-5 months. My skin looked amazing, my cellulite dissappeared and what was even better my riding improved ten fold. I started the plan march last year and I kept the weight off too until I had an operation in Feb this year where I did gain just over a stone, though I've been back on plan and I've lost 4lbs in 10 days so it's quickly coming off again.
Even better I never felt hungry and I got to eat home made cake every morning with full fat Greek yogurt, strawberries and honey plus many other really yummy meals. As a former binge eater who used to devour 4000 calories in one sitting, it's changed my life and is now a lifestyle ?

Is that online or is it a book. What costs are involved? (I'm already a WW member)

That’s my these days. I think for me the perimenopause is the main factor. I’ve never really been thin but usually within the recommended BMI although I’d fluctuate up and down a bit controlling in with diets. Over the last couple of years it’s got totally out of control. However I cannot so far start let alone keep to a diet for the life of me. I’m also constantly tired and everything hurts. The extra weight doesn’t help. I feel older than I think I should at 50 this year.

It's sort of online, you get 3 different cycles that get sent to you via email with recipes with macros suited to you. You have 30 days to complete each cycle, send off your body measurements and photos and then you get the next cycle with new recipes and workouts. You have a year to complete it so you can do longer than 30 days on each cycle. I can't remember how much it is but should be on the body coach website. You can also join the Facebook page exclusive to those who signed up to the plan, it's fab with great support. Worth every penny though and the food is never restrictive, in fact I've never eaten so much before! For lunch I used to have a sandwich of some kind and a packet of crisps but lunch today was red thai chicken curry with peppers, broccoli, sweet potato and green beans with a homemade nut and melted chocolate bar for afterwards. Oh and you can still drink tea on the plan which is incredibly important!! I cannot give up my daily brews lol

Oh and you can eat so much cheese! I never knew I could eat a block of cheese a week and still lose the chub ? cheese goes with anything I discovered... Except lamb, don't do that.

Joe Wicks looks to be £97, I assume that lasts a year?

I'd like to be able to see like, an example week or something online before I signed up tbh. From what I can find it seems to be low carb/ carb cycling and HIIT?

You have the plan forever, it's just you lose help from the support people online if you have a question. There's also a swap tool you can use still after the year is up if you don't like certain ingredients. You only have high amount of carb meals after a hiit but they only take 25 mins. There is a lot of prep though and cooking from scratch every day gets a bit tiring but that's the only downsides I found. The high fat low carb meals are divine so I don't really miss the extra carbs. I'll post one of the low carb meals

Oh okay, cool! That's not that bad at all then I suppose.

I have to say I learned A LOT just using the MFP recipe calculators and playing with macros myself so I probably won't really ever be sold on the prescriptive recipe plans BUT I can see if you're not used to cooking from scratch that you'd need the help to get you started. I'm glad you've had such a good time with it!

It's definitely opened my eyes up to the world of macros! I cooked from scratch before the plan but was cooking the same thing most weeks and my portion sizes were massive! A typical sized steak from the supermarket does me two meals and not one like I was doing before ?
The plan has hiits that you can't access on his normal YouTube channel too. I did them for 4 months but no offence to Joe his voice is slightly annoying sometimes and I ended up swearing at him a lot ? so I now either make up my own or do other PT hiits on YouTube. I found an American PT last night and did their 20 minute ab workout. Jesus christ they are another breed!! I can barely get off the sofa today as my abs are crying ?

Reduced carb
I’ve got one of his cook books but I was put off by the number of unusual ingredients in them that you needed to purchase (still got the coconut oil I’ve never opened) and it seemed really expensive and time-consuming to get going. Is the plan simpler?

Hmm. I wonder if that's half my problem too, at 47 this year. Oh dear

It is time consuming especially at the beginning and the first few food shops are also a bit pricey once you get certain ingredients but it's not too bad after that. Though I find buying fresh ingredients is far more expensive than buying crap which is a shame. Some of the ingredients are a bit 'what the hell is that' but I either miss it out or swap it for something else. Like the breaded chicken has hot sauce mixed in which I don't like so swapped it for heinz sweet BBQ sauce instead. My OH is super fussy and he's enjoyed a lot of the meals on the plan. We both hate onions too so swap it for something we like. It's pretty easy to follow and once you cook up recipes enough times it becomes second nature. The main ingredients I cook with is oats, almond milk, passata, coconut milk and oil, ground almonds, peanut butter and cheese. Then any veg, meat and spices.

Haha portion control is good for the wallet as well! I can get 10 "meals" out of a whole chicken these days!

I tried HIIT youtube for a hot minute but honestly they're all annoying? Sorry to all fitness youtubers but I hate you. Even when I was at my fittest (I was really into weightlifting for like 2 years, hence the macro obsession) 20 mins of abs was my idea of a living nightmare. God speed you masochist ??

I would also like to lose weight to get back into riding. Unfortunately I used to binge eat when I was stressed and it is very hard to break that cycle - my weight peaked at 17st6 which was a bit scary. My biggest problem is mental, not letting it get to me if I "slip up" and trying to see the long term. I've been trying to lose weight for so many years and it really upsets me that I keep "failing". Always up for tips to help me on my journey.

I really found even reading the Paul McKenna book really helped me with understanding that feeling of 'failing' and how its a myth! The book is called 'I can make you thin' and it comes with a hypnosis CD, even if it just makes you feel better, its totally worth it! Its a really small book, takes a few hours to read. Try it, I know it sounds mental but it can work if you want it to!

I joined Slimming World the week before lockdown and have lost 22lbs in 8 (or is it 9?) weeks. Not being in the office has helped massively. There’s a treat table there, it’s always full and I go in with the intention of resisting but by 11am I’m on my 3rd biscuit. I’m doing couch to 5k and for the first time this week I’ve noticed my knees don’t hurt out running. I want to lose 4 stone in total so still a fair distance to go. I’m determined this time though and have stood firm when OH (normally the first to lead me astray) has ordered pizza, getting something healthy I’ve batch made out of the freezer

I’ve never been skinny (I got called ’flump’ in school by a particularly nasty bunch of boys) and even though I know I weigh a lot more now than I used to, I’ve always told myself there’s no point trying to lose weight as I’ll always be fat but I came across a photo album from uni (20years ago) while having a lockdown clear out and realised I was actually ok back then! I doubt I’ll get back to that shape, what with being 20 years older now but even half way there would be ok.

All my weight is on my tummy, which seems to be the worst place to carry it both in terms of health and appearance. I know I’ll never have a flat tummy but that definitely isn’t a reason to stay as I am.

Oh see that's really interesting. Interesting how we perceive ourselves. I carry all my weight on my backside and thighs (fat calves too hence I can't get affordable smart boots) . Try making that look tidy in beige breeches!? I always wished I carried it on my tummy as my theory was, I could cover it up. So interesting how we always wish for what others have.

And I think it’s much easier to hide legs than a tummy! My show jacket is bursting at every button. My jods roll down at the waist every time I bend over in them. Trousers cut me in half and create a really unsightly line right across my middle (and I can’t wear a bigger size or they hang off my legs and non existent (in comparison) bum and look awful. Low waisted ones fall down as I have no hips and high waisted ones hurt as they go in where my tummy goes out! My legs are the first place it goes from too. My normal jeans are already very saggy on the bum and legs now I’ve lost a bit but I don’t think I’ll manage a size down on the waist yet.

I’ll keep an eye out for that, thank you. It honestly is my brain that is the problem!

Oh bless you. I get jealous of slim bums and thighs (when my backside is pouring out the sides of the saddle). I can't get bottoms (be it jeans, breeches, trousers etc) up over my knees but if I go up a size, the waist is too big and I could put a hoop in the waistband like a clown. I'd love to wear white breeches but it is beyond hideous so I have to wear beige and even that isn't flattering. My heart just sinks when there's a photographer at an event and once I was in the top ten at a champs and there was an unmounted prizegiving so a gazillion photos of all ten of us. Ooooooh how embarrassed I was - I stuck out like a sore thumb.
Just interesting isn't it, how we see ourselves.

Does anyone know of a follow along barre video with not much talking?

The follow alongs I've found so far and they never shut up, even the ones that say there is very little talking.

I understand some instruction needed but not blinking constant, would drive me nuts lol otherwise I'll have to mute them
