I have a mini Shetland and he's not losing his coat very fast he's drinking fine and eating fine. Just wondered if anyone else's is holding onto there's my warm blood lost his really quick but then he is a bit thick and probably saw sun and stripped lol just wondered if others are doing same

Our shetland (shetland cross? not sure of exact breeding but he is rather finely built for pure shetland) is very slow loosing his and has been the last two years too. He is 5 and in good health so don't suspect any underlying conditions. He is down to a kind of baby fluff rather than full winter coat now.

Our other two (one a native) have almost completely lost their winter coats.

my little chap is the same. Got a soft fluffy coat not fully shed winter coat yet. Also rather scurfy and itchy. He is 4 and my first Shetland so not sure whats normal!

they are all slow this year, and they are likely to have slightly more summer coat this year due to the 2 previous summers.

neds arent stupid, they will hang on to a coat if needs be, and with this weather I dont blame them!

My new TB arrived on the 8th may with his winter woollies pretty much intact. He's lost most of it by now but still has a hairy rump.

My Shetland didn't finish shedding until June. Then it all started again at the end of July. One of my exmoor ponies still has a bit to go, too.

I don't know if my mini is coz I can't catch him to groom him! might have to resort to moving the fencing in so I can catch him this weekend! he needs a good groom!

My Welsh A only just started and now seems to have stopped again like she's thought 'Rain! Change of plan!' So I wouldn't worry too much.

My shettie always moulted out late and started with his winter coat early, they're just tough little ponies.

That said my WB is late this year and still has a fluffy bum.

Don't have one myself but a lady on my yard has a half-wild mare who is about 30 years old - :D - who won't tolerate much grooming.. It takes her pretty much all summer to lose her winter coat! By the time she loses it all, she has to start growing it again! :p
If he seems happy & healthy, I wouldn't worry too much :)

My Shettie has always lost his coat late, he has nearly a full winter coat still! My Dartmoor had lost most of his by the beginning of may.

Lol glad to hear it he started to loose it really quickly and then as some of you said kinda went uh oh it's cold again and stopped. Like yours rachy my wb totally lost his apart from his bum at the top he looks like friar tuck lol just a ring of dark fluff that is still refusing to budge lol thanks guys feel a bit better now. Stupid weather

My two year old cobs have not lost all their winter coats either, as described above still fluffy. The weather up here is still cold at night so I am not surprised. We also find that as soon as it get into August there is an autumn chill even if sun is out so I think this year as others say they will not be in summer coat for long if at all!

I have a Shetland cross, he's been here a few years and he always takes until the end of June to lose his coat. He has a summer coat for about two weeks then he starts growing in the next winter's fluff.

Mine (connie x I think) is hanging on to his winter coat. He was hunter clipped at the end of Jan and still has legs, head, saddle patch and the little triangle above his tail. It's coming out slowly but I'd have expected him to have lost it all by now... I put it down to this bl00dy miserable cold "spring"! :/

My rather special cob started losing his winter coat on new years day. it was all gone by March. He is now starting to lose his summer coat and I suspect is growing a winter coat... -yep - you tell me !!:eek::rolleyes:
