Losing your horse of a lifetime

I know exactly how you feel... lost my once in a lifetime horse a year and 7 months ago to botulism... even now I still get teared up thinking about it. I was near depression for quite a while.... I managed to climb out of the deep hole about 6 months ago, but still lost all will to compete or even ride. I have to force myself to ride my other horses, although it's getting better.

It'll be painful for quite a while, but try and think of positive memories. I made the mistake of never forgiving myself for how he died, but in the end, I couldn't of done anything anyway, went all too fast. I also refused to talk about it to anyone and that was a big mistake, talking about it gives you more peace.

I lost my horse of a lifetime November 2008, I took a 6 month break and then started riding for others. It was 4 years before I bought my "new" horse. I still miss my old boy terribly. Everyone's different. Sorry for your loss x

I'm very sorry to hear of your heart breaking loss x
I lost my girl in may last year, she was absolutely amazing, we fought through so much and we made so many wonderful memories together. I will never forget her and she will never be replaced.
I knew I wouldn't be without a horse for long as I live for the relationship and routine of having a horse to care for.
I brought my new girl home just two months later, maybe I rushed into it, but I honestly couldn't cope without a horse.
The main point to realise is another horse is not a replacement, they will never fill that void. But they will give you another chance, a chance to build a relationship, a chance to work together to achieve goals and mostly a chance to find another beings quirks match your own so you become inseparable.
All horses deserve a chance and so do we x
