Loss of Confidence

I once burst into tears in the middle of a college riding lesson because the instructor asked me to jump a 1ft cross pole on the most reliable horse they had! ...I had a complete melt down on the approach, the horse felt it and slowly came to a halt in front of the jump.

Spider, you poor thing! I would definitely try and find someone to ride until you feel better - as you've said, he knows something is wrong with you physically, and IMO you'd be better off just taking a complete break until you recover.

Best of luck, and I hope you feel better soon.

Spider I know how you feel!

Years ago I bought a lovely mare who was way too sharp for me really. She was kept in 24hrs a day except for exercise in a school and was completely mad when I rode her. When I finally [stupidly] bought her and turned her out for 12hrs a day she was a different horse, calmed down and was much more sensible.

My current mare who I compete on is fantastic at a competition but horrible at home and on hacks. She's incredibly spooky and often frightens the life out of me as I can feel a huge spook coming on a lot of the time and there's little I can do about it, and often fall off!

And here I admit it: I don't ride her at home when it's windy!

I lunge her. If it's windy every day for a week, I lunge her everyday for a week!

There's only a couple of schools I can hire in a 10 mile radius that she's not nervous in, so if I can hire/use one I will, but if not she doesn't get ridden! But if I go to a competition she's fine, unless it's dressage then she's nervy!

That's how scared I get!!!!

Don't make yourself do what you don't feel right doing. If you don't want to ride that particular day then don't. I'd certainly recommend getting someone else to ride your Cob until you feel totally fit again.

I went on holiday for a week over Christmas and came back feeling worried I couldn't cope with my four, I hear about anyone having an accident and all I can think about is having it as well and I can't even trot over a pole on the ground without breaking into a sweat, so you are not alone!!!
