Does anyone have any experience of this? My insurers have said my girl will be freezemarked to show loss of use. Thick question probably hence I'm asking it here and not to them ;) but is it a code or will it actually be the full "loss of use claim" on her??

My arab has one .. just a small circled L under freezemark ... she was claimed against by her original show owner ... small tiny scar on back of her leck put her out of the 'in hand' game :o

Doesnt make a difference and when saddle is on you cant see so fine for ridden classes (not that I do them lol) - insurance will now only cover her as same category as a veteran.

That's interesting Victoria, I didnt think insureres would settle a loss of use claim on cosmetic scarring that affected showing only. You learn something every day don't you.

Lol, I don’t know how true it is – it’s only the story I was told (although the stud I bought her form is owned by a dear friend of mine so can’t see them lying) – she was insured for a very high figure and he only shows in hand so it did sound about right … she was in the stable and the groom left a fork in there – she walked backwards and the fork went up into her leg and left a white scar on her leg so he no longer could show her … the scar (or white hair I should say) is there – I bought her as a three year old (she’s now 11) and never had a problem with her in terms of riding etc so who knows??? She was still bought for a decent amount but insurance will only cover up to £1,500 which I don’t mind about but just need her insured for public liability! x

I guess the loss of use is relevant to what the equine is used predominantly for which would be stated at time of insuring

So a showjumper no longer able to jump would be freezemarked with the L but that wouldnt stop it being used for hacking or RC activities in future, it just lost its main value for not being able to be showjumped at its previous level

So I guess a show pony is no different, the top ones change hands for a lot of money and if not able to be shown they would lose a lot of that value

Bit like models insuring their legs I guess!
