Lost a horse to colic today.

Very sad news. Lost a lovely 9 yo mare to catastrophic colic today in the space of an hour. She belonged to my neighbour who is away until tomorrow and I had to make the decision to let her go. Vet tried everything but her heart gave out. Absolutely devestated. x RIP Minnie

. At least she went quite quickly. It must have been something serious or she had an underlying heart prob. So sad but sooner or later... Will be hard on the owners. Chin up lass. Mairi.

Condolences to you and owner.

Don't take me wrong now, but I'm glad to hear that you hade the courage to make a decision, be very proud of yourself.

I can't afford a horse of my own, I have dogs and cats and the two times I left them to my mother to look after, we sat down and talkt through for exampel if I wanted them to try and contact me before euthanasia if something where to happen. I told her that if the vet says nothing can be done, I expect her to make the decision, and if someone dies I want to be called afterwards, but if they're "just" sick I don't want to know over the phone, because I will just worry about that they might be dying.

We had that talk because I meet someone that was looking after a Rottweiler, the dog got sick, they got it to the vet, turned out to be total liverfailure in process and the dogsitter still refused to make the decision!

She insisted on that the vet had to get the approval from the owner and now she was sitting and talking about how relieft she was that they had managed to get in contact with the owner before the vets time limit was over.

I stayed way away of her after hearing her say that.

So be proud of yourself, it's the last favour we can give them. It tear our hearts out, if they're young because they had so much time left, if they're old because we've had more time to learn to love them.

from Sweden RIP
