A white female Borzoi was lost yesterday in the South Moulton, Devon area. She escaped from the vet clinic where she had just had a minor operation. She escaped while still sedated out of an open back door!!!

The staff followed her for a short distance down a road then she went into a field and they lost sight of her. How they lost sight of a sedated WHITE BORZOI is unbelievable but they did.

PLEASE anyone in the area pass the word around. She will be very frightened and disorientated. She answers to the name of "CAT". She is 7.5 yrs old.

This is a sensitive breed. She may be more receptive to female than male people. If you get close to her she may approach you if you crouch or sit on the ground and let her come to you.

Please inform www.doglost.co.uk immediately and PM me if you have a sighting.

ALSO in late June another friend lost a Borzoi while walking on Talacre Beach, Prestatyn, North Wales. A red and white male of around 18 months old slipped his lead and ran off. Despite immediate extensive searches and day and night vigils he was never found. They are still hopeful he is out there. He answers to the name of "Foley". But he is VERY leash shy. Again please PM me if you have ever had a sighting or anything that may help, even the most minor detail could bring this much loved dog home.

THANK YOU.

How awful! Are the owners staking out the area she ran off into and following all Doglosts advice? The clinic wants a real kick up the backside for this. Fancy leaving a door open in a vet clinic full of scared and disoriented dogs

So sorry to hear this...you must be besides yourself

I would be fuming if the vets had let my dog escape, it is their job to secure you animal during their stay.....I would be demanding they do everything they can to find your dog...including a very generous REWARD for returning her if found, from their pockets to help get her back.

South Molton is very close to me - I will keep my ear to the ground for you.

Really hope you get her back soon though - she will certainly stand out.

Thank you for your help. And to skinydogs2 for posting on another sighthound forum.

This is not my bitch (nor the other lost Borzoi mine - that is a close friends) but I do know the breeder and have met the owner before now.

A Borzoi, even a sedated one can cover a huge distance in very little time, talking miles so she could be anywhere now. But hopefully instead has stayed close to the area of the vet clinic.

Please mention this to anyone in the area - even the hunts and yards would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

Wish i could help more, but i'm way too far up north for the Devon lady dog.

It may be worth asking local dog wardens, and local dog rescue places, and other vets in the area? Even putting ads in local papers? (A friend of mine lost her dog in Delamere Forest, Cheshire, and he'd actually been stolen while she was walking him, and was in Liverpool)

Re the male dog lost at Talacre - I have a bit to do with helping North Clwyd Animal Rescue, close to Holywell, + while i don't know all the dogs, i will ask when i go there again next week. Website: www.NCAR.org.uk - may be worth contacting them.

With sincere hope that both dogs are soon re-united with their owners, and maybe internet and vets are best options?

It's such a horrible thing to happen, sending love to all, BS x

Thanks for thinking about the Talacre Beach Borzoi. North Clwyd Animal Rescue do have his details as do all the vets, rescues, doglost, petsearch, etc. BUT I mentioned him again now as it was June when he went and people often forget, they may see a dog some months later and it may look familiar but the reason why slips their minds!

He is a large White with red marked male. Quite shy. My friends who lost him contacted every organisation etc they could find. However I also phoned around, sometimes doubling up on their calls and a couple of the "rescues" told me they had not previously been informed when I know they had already even had posters with his photo on them from the owner!

His picture and details were also posted on the BHS area web site.

Unfortunately he was not microchipped ot tattoed. I urge every dog owner to get your dogs chipped, all mine are done, even puppies at 12 weeks.

We once spent 5 days looking for a labrador puppy belonging to a friend in Dorset. The pup at 6 months old had been sent to a gamekeeper for training and on the first day escaped. We searched high and low. Contacted all the vets, doglost, etc etc. On day 2 I heard a dog barking (puppish barking) at a farm and so I went to the door and asked if they had seen or found a lab pup. They said no. On the 5th day we were at the end of the farm drive again retracing tracks and saw a lab pup in the yard - went up and spoke to another person there and he handed over the pup - it HAD been there from the very day it escaped!!! Probably they would have just kept it had it not been tattoed and so the pup was identified immediately.

Thank you for keeping this Borzoi in peoples minds.

The white female Borzoi in South Moulton has been found! Safe and well apart from a few cuts, and obviously very tired. THAK YOU to all who posted on this htread and who gave help.

The red and white male lost in June in North Wales is still missing but we will not give up hope. Please keep him in your thoughts.

And THANK YOU again.

So glad she has buun found, bet her owners are over the moon. I didn't know about the borzoi lost at Talacre. Not in the area but sometimes go to Talacre beach with my dogs so will bear it in mind. Have all the stray dog kennels in the North West, North Wales, Shropshire etc been contacted? I ask because the kennel in Whitchurch, Shrops actually takes in strays from Wrexham in N. Wales, so dogs are placed quite a long way from where they are found. Fingers crossed he turns up safe.

MurphysMinder - all the kennels in North Wales have been informed however I don't know about the Whitchurch, Shrops one. I will ask the owner today if she contacted anyone down there. Which kennel would that be? I will give them a call myself anyway if you could let me have their name or website.

Thank you for the thought.
