Lost Dog - Urgent Please Help

I dont know if this can be posted here but am desperate for help.

On Sunday10th October our dog escaped fromthe garden in WV10 area near Cannock. He is my 81 year old fathers dog and he is devastated as we all are and miss him terribly.

He is a smooth coated Fox Terrier male around 4 years old ( he looks like a big Jack Russell and people who have seen him when we have been out on walks often think he is a Parsons Terrier).

He is mainly white with brown ears and the left half of his face is Brown and he has a brown patch on his back.

I am posting on here in the hope that some one may have seen him or know where he is. He was wearing a brown webbing collar but no ID tag as my daughter had just taken his normal collar with the tag off and put the web collar on as she was going to bath him, but he is micro chipped. The Chip company have been notified, I have contacted all the local rescue centres and vets, advertised in the local papers and posted notices in shops and in the street in an attempt to find him.

I am asking for help as he may be out of the local area and if he has been taken in the person may not realise that he has a loving home and a family who are distraught.

We are desperate to get him back and would be grateful if anyone sees him or knows some one who has a dog like this to contact me. He could be anywhere. Any information will be treated inthe strictest confidence, I just want him home, as we all miss him so much.

Sorry you have lost your boy, have you put him on Doglost website? They are great, very helpful, also poster like mad, and get him in the local news, make him too hot to handle in case the wrong people have got hold of him. Good luck gitting him back.
 
I suggest Doglost as already suggested by somebody, Alfies lost dogs, and also contact the Fox Terrier Club, the Smooth Fox Terrier Association, and Fox Terrier Rescue.

Anybody that could come into contact with him, or whose members could look out for him. All local dog wardens, and dog rescues.

Bear in mind a lot of people may id him as a JRT or a parsons jack russell, so could be worth putting on the Jack Russell Rescue site as well.

Good luck. Absolute pains aren't they, but you don't want to lose them. At least he's chipped which will improve the odds.

I can't get onto doglost currently, it seems to be down.

It could be worth checking Marty out on K9Search as the date and location seem reasonable.

I know I am repeating myself but keep an eye on Gumtree, Donedeal, Preloved in case somebody has found him or is trying to sell him on, posters, searches, local TV, radio, newspapers, kick up a STINK and keep him in the public eye so he is too hot to handle.

I have tried all the normal routes, K9, Doglost, Alfies, and numerous other organisations. I have contacted local councils where I have to say I have some concern, as some would not take the details when I gave them my post code as 'the computer says no' due to their systems being set to a specific post code area. This has resulted in me giving the post code of their nearest supermarket in order to get the dogs details on file which in itself is ridiculous. In one case the operator put her own post code in to try to help me

Additionally different councils have different systems, if a stray dog is found and the finder wishes to keep it then the law states that the finder is legally required to report the dog to the dog warden in which the dog is found, not the area in which the finder lives if the dog has been picked up on route. They are also required to complete a form stating that they will keep the dog for 28 days .At the end of this period the dog is signed over although is not legally owned by the finder if the owner turns up and can prove the dog is theirs.

However this process varies in that some councils require the finder to take them to the local dogs home, when they are admitted to the kennels and scanned for microchips. Some send the dog warden out to scan and the finder retains the dog at their prepises and others just get a form completed and no scan is done. Thus the chances of ever finding your dog depends on the method adopted by your local council and makes a complete mockery of having your dog microchipped in the first place.

I have also contacted local vets who have said that while they would scan a dog brought in as a stray they would not scan a dog on its first visit to them when brought in by its 'owner' as this may offend the owner. Once again burocracy rules! What this means that if someone takes a dog to the vet for any treatment the vet assumes they have aquired the dog legally and rather than hurt their feelings, but perhaps be able to reunite lost pets with their real owners they choose not to.

This may not be the case with all vets but this is certainly my experience.
Any help to increase publicity of this and to find Foxy are gratefully appreciated.

In reality how many people know they are commiting an offence and could be prosecuted if they find a stray dog and do not correctly report it to the local authority where the dog was found.

I have also posted notices in local papers, streets, shops, supermarkets, petshops, etc.

It's all a mess isn't it. They should increase the time to at least two weeks to allow owners more time to track down their pet. Microchipping is still worth doing though. For what it's worth our vet discreetly checked our new girl for a microchip before chipping her earlier this year. One reason we chipped our girl was the mess that the system is in. At least it improves the odds.

Hope he's back home soon.
 
Nothing from ads and radio appeal. If anyone sees a dog like this or knows anyone who has recently got a dog like this please get in touch. I realise that someone may have picked him up and not know what to do next. I just want to get him back as my dad's health is deteriorating since Foxy went missing.

Please post him on Facebook with his picture and the fact that he is missing and perhaps someone will recognise him and come forward. The more people that can do this for me the better the chance of finding him and making the twighlight years of two elderly people very happy. So please post his picture and details on facebook and get all your friends to do this so that every one knows he is missing.

No blame, no questions, not interested in how anyone acquired him, I just need to get him back, a reward is offered for information resulting in his safe return.

Thank you for your help. A member of another forum has set up a facebook group for Foxy , http://www.facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_159584310738546.

My father is very emotional about the way everyone on here wants to help and is very grateful.

I have contacted more vets and widened the search. As they all now have a picture of him they have assured me that they will scan any dog bearing his description, whereas they would only normally scan strays. I have also contacted the Sun, Itv and the BBC. ITV are discussing it on thursday to see if they want to run with the story but I think it unlikely although if we can increase his face book group then this may swing it, the other two have not bothered to reply at this stage. I will let you know how I get on.

I need to keep Foxy in the public eye, the media are only interested if it increases their readers or viewers. If we can build up Foxys facebook group to a substantial then that may make a difference. A missing dog with a face book following may make a story for them. My only objective is to get Foxy back, but I realise that in this case we may be down to people power.

Can I please ask that you all join his facebook page and get all your friends to do the same. The high I can raise his profile the better.

Groups of normal people can make a difference, please help me to make a different now. By highlighting the issues with micro chipped pets which are lost, we may be able to succeed where celebrities have failed.
 
Just a thought, Paul O Grady and Grahame Norton are both animal lovers and I think they have tv and radio shows maybe worth contacting their shows. You might be able to get email address from websites or something.
 
Thank you fof all your Support Foxys Facebook group now has 243 members in 24 hours which is great, hopefully many more will join.

I am trying to contact Paul Grady and Grahame Norton as suggested above, but cannot find any contact details for them or their shows.

I spoke to someone at ITV central news who are supposed to be discusing the matter today to see if they can run with the story but I am not hopeful as it has now been a week since I first contacted them and they do not seem to realise that they longer it takes the less chance they have of getting him back. Although to be fair the BBC have not replied at all.

If anyone knows Paul Grady or Graham Norton personnaly or any dog loving celebrity who may be able to add some clout to the campaign I would be eternally grateful if you could let me know. In the meantime please get as many people as you can to join Foxys facebook group.

A lost dog is in the media eyes just a lost dog. A lost dog with a large facebook group may just catch their interest and add weight to the campaign.

What a lovely dog. Have you tried petsearch? They are a midlands based charity who keep a massive log of all lost and found pets. Give them a try. http://www.ukpetsearch.freeuk.com/

I wish you the very best of luck. Foxy looks like a lovely dog and your Father and your family must be devastated by your loss. Hope you find him soon. Tell your Dad to keep his chin up. I would also say don't keep looking in the immediate area, as stray animals can wander far afield. We know from experience that a cat that went missing in Solihull ended up in Barnes Hill which was over 25 miles away. xxxx

Sadly Foxy has still not been found , and despite pleas for them to make appeals on their shows Paul Ogrady and Grahame Norton have not replied although I suppose they get a lot of requests and would have to sift through them. Nothiing from ITV Central or the BBC so I assume they have decided not to pursue at his stage.

My only hope is that some one on here of from the facebook group will have seen him, or knows someone who has recently acquired a dog like him if so please phone me on 07925593135, as this is the only way I can see us ever getting him back . Please keep joining the facebook group it may make a difference.

How bloody awful for you & your dad. I wish I knew Paul O'Grady & could have a word. Keep up the pestering on everyone - police, dog wardens, advert in papers, vets - the more noise you make, the more likely someone, somewhere will notice. The microchip system is a bloody joke too. Somebody's making big bucks out of it & it means sod all in law.:(
 
He is lovely, I really hope you find him, just don't give up hassling people the more folk who know the more difficult it will be for anyone to hold on to him if he has been found.

I keep trying the papers and radio stations but it falls on deaf ears. Is there no dog loving reporter out there who could help. As you can see from the photo he is very distinctively marked and microchipped. The more people looking out for him the better the chance of finding him. Please keep looking and tell everyone you know about him . THis is the only way I can see us getting him back.
