Slightly different, but I sold a gelding many years ago, and decided to try and trace him.
So I put a post on a forum just like this one. Luckily he was freezemarked as his name had been changed.
Someone replied directly back and said they'd known him under a different name but definately the same horse through his freezemark.
I was so chuffed to be able to trace him to his final owner. Bless him he'd been PTS due to arthritis, but just goes to show how people do reply if they know anything.
