My lovely, big lad was PTS this morning.
Last Monday evening, he went into his stable fit as a butcher's dog, on Tuesday morning his back end was crippled, severe ataxia. Vet initially though some form of neck fracture, but still did the barrage of blood tests to rule everything else out. They were clear, so he started on a course of steroids. He improved in 'himself' but was still very wobbly. Yesterday, we had to start reducing the dose, this morning he was worse than he was to start with. Very unstable and swaying when just stood and back end collapsing when he moved, his front legs were showing tremors as well. Vet is 99% certain he had, in laymen's terms, a broken neck
. Made to decision to PTS just before 11am.
I am totally devastated, he was my dream horse and such a charcter, bolshy, impatiant, refused to tolerate idiots and was a total showman. I shall miss him so very much
RIP Just Marcus
