Went to turn out my mares this morning to find a perfect colt foal born 8 weeks early. Can't believe it.

Since starting breeding I have had 3 foals lost between 7 and 9 months in the pregnancy, a still born and a foal I sold at 8 months lost to grass sickness 5 weeks later in his new home.

I have 2 other mares due in the next 8 - 10 weeks so am waiting for the vet to come an check my mare over and make sure there is no sinister reason - she has given me a heathy colt - now 5, then lost at 7 months, then didn't take, then another healthy colt that died of grass sickness, a 10 month old filly that I still have and then this.

I had already decided this would be her last foal (she is 18 this time) as I felt she looked tired but I didn't expect this.

Sorry for the rant I am just upset and angry.

how sad

hope mum is ok & good lucky with your other mares

My very deepest sympathy we lost rubies little filly still born two weeks ago so I do understand the deep hurt you must be feeling, its is such a loss when for what seems like no real reason they are taken god bless.

I am so sorry, i too have had lost foals as an abortion and at birth and nothing can prepare you for this no matter how many times you have had this shock. My thoughts are with you and of course your mare who has carried the foal with no reward at the end. Will be thinking of you.xxx

so sorry to hear that. its heart breaking. maybe mare could help another foal have you phoned joanna verdon? thats if she has milk? hope the others are ok.

Vet has just left, sadly my poor mare has a serious uterine infection so its not looking good.
I am torn between keeping trying to fight for her and letting her go peacefully.
She is 18 this time and I have to make the decision to try and treat at the vets or PTS.

Help please!

So sorry. Your foal was due at the same time as mine so can only imagine how you must be feeling. Am sure you will make the right decision for your mare. (((Hugs))).

So sorry to hear this! it is an awful position to be in as well with your mare - just remember you know her best and that what ever decision you come to will be the right one. Wish I could say something to help but................

I am so sorry you lost the baby....I would try to help your mare and hit her with treatment...if you make a decision today, you may regret it later, at least this way you give yourself some time, and your mare a chance. I am sure either way though, you will make the right decision.

Sorry to hear about your loss, we lost a couple of foals too and know how hard it is. We had an older mare that lost her filly 3 weeks before it was due - she had had a uterine infection too and it had scared the placenta so no way baby would go to full term. On the up though she did recover and enjoyed a few years of retirement as a lawn mower! Just make sure she is not put out in the same field as other mares and isolate her from them until they have foaled incase it is something that can be passed to the others.

Really sad to hear that. It must be the worst experience to lose a foalie so late. Only time will heal. (((hugs))

Hi All

Tried to update in here but couldn't so I posted in NL2. Don't know if anyone read in there but sadly I lost my mare too.

After a horendous night on 8th March, vet spent most of the night with us, she was sadly PTS at 8.30am on Tuesday morning.

I am still so shocked and gutted to lose both mare and foal is not something I ever thought would happen.

RIP Holly & Foalie & Run Free Sweet Girl xxxxxxx

I am so so sorry for you. It is my worst fear and I am really saddened to hear what an awful time you have had.

Take care ( ( hugs ) )
