Just come on to have a bit of a moan and sulk really.
Long story short, went for 2 interviews elsewhere and on second interview a colleague saw me at other office. Grassed me up to the manager and then I had no job... I was lucky enough to get the job I had the interviews for until they called me to say that they were going to have to push back my start date to sometime in Jan/Feb.
I am really upset and stressed out. No money for christmas and my Livery money isn't there either... :(

Anybody need a mucker outer? Cheap rates for large parties! ;)

You can't be sacked for going for an interview (unless you pulled a sickie or something to take the time off). Are you a permanent employee?

Sorry forgot to mention that we are all self employed. So they can dismiss you at anypoint. The colleague that told the manager is actually the 'friend' that got the job for me.

Not sure your company can just sack you cos you went for an interview elsewhere.

If anything verbal and a written warning would need to be issued to you before they terminated your employment.

If I were you I would pop yourself down to CAB to discuss this with them.

just read your message... ah poop not great then :(
Sorry but that is no friend to do that to you jeez I'd be looking for new friends too.

If its not 'beneath you' now is a great time to get some mundane agency work as a temp. It'll be customer service or picking an packing, or you might be lucky and find a bit more of an interesting role, but it'd be something you could get your head down and get on with and keep some pennies coming in :)

Yes have been on and off the phone all day and meeting with an agency tomorrow regarding some warehouse/packing work. Fingers crossed and lets hope the new year brings something good! At the end of the day money is money no matter what you have to do (within reason!).

Oh blimey - just what you DON'T need in December (or any time). Mind you that's one less Christmas card you have to send. What a b****.

Hmmm as for mucking out jobs....my last one paid £1 a stable, and that was three years ago....:o

Lots of well paid retail jobs around this time of year just for the festive period - try M&S - they pay quite good rates and lots of very discounted food. Best of luck.

nice "friend" that is!!! sorry to hear about this. Can you get any christmas work in a shop or anything over the busy period to tide you over?

I got made redundant in October (whole office shut down...) and have just been offered a job to start on Monday. There are jobs out there surprisingly - although dependent on what you do I guess? However, it's good news that you've already been offered a job to start in the new year so just look for some temp work until your start date, loads of xmas temp jobs going :)

Oh god, I really feel for you, I recently got offered a really good job subject to satisfactory references, they withdrew the offer after my manager said I'd only supervised 2 volunteers when the figure is actually about 10, they said two wasnot enough experience. whilst I still have my old job it's 6k less than the one I was offered and its cost me the ability to get a mortgage on a house I was looking to buy and of course there is no way I can go and work under that manager now... I've raised a grievance at work... It's a huge mess, so I really get where you are coming from:( so sorry to hear this, but you should take this further, depending on how long you were With the original job, they can't just sack you on the spot for going to an interview.

Some friend. Chin up, it will be fine. Any work (within reason of course) is better than none. Regarding livery, what about doing some work for the YO in lieu of livery, or arrange a payment plan with them for when you are working. As long as you tell them there is a problem, most people are pretty sympathetic.

Regarding xmas, what about giving people 'promises' to do something for them. For example, clean their house, do their horse for a week, etc, etc. Be inventive and creative. It will cost you nothing and would be hugely appreciated. I would love someone to do this for me, much prefer it to choccies and smellies if I am honest as I can buy them anytime. Again, tell people you are not working and are skint. People really can be very understanding.

Good luck though.

You can threaten (and possibly take them to tribunal) them with the Employee Appeal Tribunal https://www.gov.uk/employment-tribunals/taking-a-case-to-an-employment-tribunal

Would have thought you would have a good case since its quantifiable - 10 vs 2 volunteers

Sorry to hear about you losing job, quite often their is temp work leaving up to Christmas in shops & sometimes the post office. Hope you find something to see you through until new job starts. I'd be seriously re-thinking whether I want this person as a friend.

Oh yes, don't you worry... It's all in hand, I already have my father(solicitor) employment law lawyer and an EL specialist barrister involved... Just waiting for the organisations ruling on the grievance process then will be making my move. I am so not impressed but knowing what a bunch of numpties work for this well known national organisation... I'm hardly surprised at the level of incompetency that means the boss of this part of the service can't even write a correct reference:rolleyes::mad: but yes, you are totally right, the loss is quantifiable and the inaccuracies are provable... I really don't envy their HR at the moment

I would too, op life's too short for friends like this op xx (((hugs))))

Thanks guys. Onwards and upwards as they say. Luckily I have lots of supportive people around me (unfortunately no rich ones ;) ) So I'm sure things will pick up. A rejection email from tesco was a bit of a kick in the teeth though. I'm sure I could manage to stack shelves etc.

Don't know if it's of interest (and of course I don't know your specific circumstances), but it might be worth looking into whether you WERE employed after all.

Just because your contract says you're self employed, your working practices may lean towards you being an employee after. I believe practice can overrule contract in certain circumstances, so you may wish to Google 'false self employment' and 'IR35' in case you can apply this to you.

Either way, good luck!

I think even if you are self employed if you have worked for the organisation for more than a year you have the same rights as a permanent employee - hence the reason where I work does not employ freelance or temp staff for longer than 11 months!
