Lost shoe - do you still ride?

My sec D boy has pulled a front off, he's due to be shod this friday.

I have ridden him once in the school and really want to ride again but don't know if it's wise?

What's best?

Depends on the state of the foot, if your riding on a surface and if your horse is footsore without the shoe.

If mine lost a front shoe, the hoof was infact and she wasn't sore then yes I would ride her in the arena.

Ditto above, if he isn't footsore and the hoof is intact then ride him in the arena, he should be fine

I would ride, but only in an arena or on soft going.

My TB would regularly pull her front shoes, and I would always still ride her in the arena providing she wasn't sore/ lame.

So long as it is nothing too strenuous like galloping or jumping then kick on on a surface or well covered grassy or soft ground.

Depends on the horse, mine is completely sound without shoes on so I would for a couple of days until the farrier could come.

Personally no, it would be unbalanced and my horses feet aren't good if he loses a shoe which touch wood he hasn't done for about 5+ years

I don't, I worry that the horse is uneven side to side with only one shoe. I've had a couple of horses with back issues, so perhaps I'm paranoid.

As long as the horse wasnt footsore, and the hoof wasnt badly damaged etc and your not doing strenuously exercise then yes I would ride but only on a surface or grassy/soft area. But it totally depends on the individual horse.

At work if they lose a hind we ride them providing they're not sore, if they lose a front then we don't ride them

I wouldn't ride mine without a shoe. But she does get foot sore.

I know a few who would ride as long as the horse isnt foot sore and the foot is intact.

i will get stick for this big time but i still hack out if mine looses a front shoe, he never goes lame i do try to keep off the road as much as possible but he is always fine.

few days off isnt worth the risk of hurting them.
