my mare has lost a front shoe. she has quite flat feet and can become foot sore. had an absess a few months back and bought a hoof boot to aid in poultice.
I am thinking of putting the boot on her until farrier can come on thursday, to prevent any soreness? but she is in the field at moment 24 hrs, would it be aright, or rub and cause more probs??
first time she's lost a shoe!!!!!!! so not sure of route to follow.

I can't advise you what to do, but can tell you about my mare!!

My mare has terrible feet. The farrier hates them, blames the Trekhaner in her. They are brittle, she gets footsore and recently had an absess.

She does quite well with out a shoe for a week or two.

We live in wales, so the ground is soft.

I would be inclined not too,due to rubbing sores etc,...if she out in a soft field she will be fine...my lad is a ponce when he loses a front, but if ground soft and level he is ok

...my farrier is very good though and will come asap if he loses a front

her paddock is soft ground except for at top end where gate is, is very stoney, which is where she likes to stand ready for her tea!
felt hoof and was a bit warm tonight, hence wondering about boot.
also was tripping a bit on the stones, obviously felt them.

Agree with hadfos.
My mare has pulled a shoe off and is foot sore, been off for 3 days now and farrier coming tomorrow, I just brung her in and then she went out in small soft part at the bottom of the field in an electric fencing.
Only temporory but works, espicially if she is prone to being sore.
